Mobile service providers Vodafone, Bharti airtel and Idea ink a pact to reduce the cost of offering the 3G services to India. They join hands to offer Pan India 3G services. The three companies share their networks to offer intra circle roaming in the circles where they did not possess the 3G licences.
After the successful 3G spectrum license auctions in May 2010. Bharti airtel gained 13 licenses, Reliance got 13 circles, Idea in 11 circles and Vodafone and Tata in 9 circles. Now, they are likely to operate in intra circle mode. As an initiative Airtel is successfully offering the 3G services in Gujarat with the help of Idea's 3G network in the circle.
A spokesperson of Vodafone said, "Vodafone has entered into a bilateral roaming agreement, both inter and intra circle, with Idea and Airtel to provide 3G services to our customers in the circles where we have not built our own 3G network, in order to bring a pan-India experience of 3G services to our customers"
Now, Idea entered into the intra-circle roaming arrangement with Vodafone to offer 3G services in Kolkata and Delhi. Vodafone is planning for services in Uttar Pradesh through Airtel. In the coming months, there will be more such offerings from the three network providers.
