  • HTC DROID DNA preview: First look
    GSMArena team
    13 Nov 2012 | gsmarena

HTC is having a hard time competing at the highest level of the smartphone market lately, but its latest smartphone might be what was needed to turn the tables. The all-caps name of the HTC DROID DNA is, for once, well deserved as this is certainly one of the most exciting smartphones we have seen lately. On paper the DROID DNA is the strongest candidate for the smartphone of the season title. The defining feature of the DROID DNA is the 1080p re...

Guanine, adenine, thymine, cytosine... Android? The Droid DNA -- the latest addition to Verizon`s Droid series -- may not contain any actual nucleotides (that we know of), but that doesn`t make this HTC-made superphone any less of a powerhouse. On the contrary, we`ve been eyeballing this handset with eager anticipation ever since it first launched in Japan as the J Butterfly; much like its counterpart from the Land of the Rising Sun, the DNA boas...

The Droid DNA features Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean with the latest version of HTC’s Sense 4+ interface. Sense 4+ is very similar to Sense 4, and should look quite familiar to anyone that has seen HTC’s phones released this year. HTC customizes Android with its own lock screen, home screens, app drawers, and multitasking system, and it covers the majority of the interface with its own theming. Whether you like HTC’s treatment of Android general...

Pros: Screen is best in class Thin and light design Comes with Android 4.1 out of the box

Cons: Battery life is terrible Occasional performance hiccups Sense 4+ buries much of what is good in Android 4.1

The new Droid DNA is the best phone I`ve seen from HTC in a long while, especially on Verizon. With its blazingly swift quad-core processor, and a gorgeous and eye-grabbing 5-inch screen, not to mention a great camera and long battery life, the Droid......

Pros: The beautifully designed HTC Droid DNA features a quad-core processor, Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, 4G LTE, a sharp 5-inch screen, an excellent camera, and long battery life.

Cons: The Droid DNA`s large size makes it tricky to fit in tight pockets, and it lacks both an SD card slot and a removable battery.

Verdict: With quad-core power, 4G LTE, a lovely 5-inch screen, and a stunning design, the $199.99 HTC Droid DNA is currently Verizon`s best Android deal....

HTC has dutifully been churning out smartphones to fly under Verizon`s Droid banner ever since it released the Droid Eris in 2009, but in recent months the company seems to have lost some of its edge. That`s why HTC is looking at its new Droid DNA as......
