Late last month, AT&T unveiled the first two smartphones that would launch with the ability to access its brand new 4G network (not to be confused with its old 4G network). The Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket was a mouthful and a pocketful, identical to......

Verdict: If I didnu2019t mind the look of the Vivid, it would be a phone I could carry regularly. As it stands, unfortunately, HTC designed this phone right out of the running for me....

The final member of AT&T’s LTE smartphone 2011 lineup is at the start line, ready to impress. The HTC Vivid is joining the company of the Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket and LG Nitro HD in a bid to defend the reputation of the Taiwanese company. HTC Vivid official photos Hardware wise, the HTC Vivid is a familiar sight. The smartphone is essentially put together from the parts’ bin of the HTC Sensation 4G and HTC EVO 3D, save for its 4.5“ scr...

Simple, all-black slabs are the norm among Android devices — and really, among smartphones in general. There isn`t necessarily anything wrong with that; simple can be (and quite often is) beautiful in its own right. And from a technological perspective, pushing an extra-large touchscreen out to the edges, practically eliminating the bezel in the process, limits your opportunities for meaningful differentiation. Thing is, HTC has been far m...

The HTC Vivid has the distinction of being one of the first phones to take advantage of AT&T`s fledgeling LTE network, a feature it shares with its launch partner the Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket. But the Vivid isn`t relying on a single bullet point......

Verdict: If youu2019re a fan of HTCu2019s solid design, youu2019ll like the Vivid. Some cutting-edge internals and access to LTE speeds doesnu2019t hurt, but a sub-par battery and weak speakers do. Still, at a new lower price of $99.99 on a new contract, itu2...

The HTC Vivid is HTC's latest phone, built for AT&T's fledgling LTE network.  There's a lot here that makes us feel right at home -- the Vivid is a combination of the best HTC had to offer for 2011 with HSPA+ and LTE radios thrown in for good measure.  This makes it pretty easy for everyone involved, because there's not a lot to surprise any of us.  It's a solid smartphone, with HTC's popular Sense softw...

Pros: The Vivid is a well-built device with a snappy dual-core processor.  AT&T's hybrid 4G network works well, and the Vivid has the horsepower to do something with those network speeds.

Cons: HTC Sense means the phone will take longer to get any software updates.  The angular design makes it a bit uncomfortable to use one-handed.

Verdict: It's not the phone for everyone, but the HTC Vivid is a solid offering with the speed to make many users very happy.  AT&T's use of LTE and HSPA is an excellent way to manage the handoff from high-speeds to not so high speeds, and HT...
