Successor to Ascend P7
Design and Display
The Huawei Ascend P8 64GB flaunts a 5.2-inch IPS display with a Gorilla Glass v3 coating on the top for protection against cracks and scratches. The screen has a full HD resolution (1,080 x 1,920 pixels) with a pixel density of 424ppi. This results in crisp and clear display with bright colours. Aesthetically, the P8 all metal body is uniformly flat both on the front and back. It has a sleek design and lightweight body which is available in black, gold, grey and mystic champagne colour options to choose from.
OS and Configuration
The device sails on Android v5.0.2 (Lollipop) operating system over which Huawei has applied its usual Emotion UI interface. The smartphone is powered by a brandÂs own 64-bit HiSilicon Kirin 930 chipset made up of two ARM Cortex-A53 quad-cores. One set clocks the speed of 2.0GHz to handle intense tasks, while the other clocks in at 1.5GHz that takes care of other standard operations. It is assisted by 3GB of RAM and Mali-T628 MP4 GPU.
Camera and Storage
The device has a 13-megapixel camera on the rear and a generous 8-megapixel around front for taking selfies - both made by Sony. The main camera comes with autofocus along with dual-color LED flash, and RGBW sensor that improves its performance in limited light conditions. For storing your data, the device has 64GB of internal storage and also comes with Hybrid SIM slot that can house microSD card of up to 64GB, if its not being used with another SIM.
Connectivity and Battery
The Huawei Ascend P8 is packed with the usual set of connectivity features weÂd find in any other phone, the listing includes 4G, Wi-Fi with hotspot, Bluetooth v4.0, GPS with A-GPS, Glonass, NFC and microUSB 2.0. The biggest drawback of this device so far is the absence of a fingerprint sensor, which is expected in any high end device nowadays. Sensors available in this device are light, proximity, accelerometer, compass and gyroscope. The device is fuelled by 2,680mAh li-polymer battery.
The Huawei Ascend P8 64GB provides a solid all-round experience with great performance, vibrant display, impressive cameras, all wrapped up in an attractive all-metal body. Although the lack of fingerprint sensor is its biggest stumbling block, if you are willing to compromise on that, then this phone is a good and an affordable option to buy compared to flagship phones of other premium brands.
