Huawei's GX8 ticks all the right checkboxes expected of a smartphone. The robust configuration, sharp display, aesthetic design and fingerprint scanner make it impressive too; having said that the price tag is slightly on the higher side.
Display, OS and Configuration
The Huawei GX8 comes with a very likeable design and a rounded rectangular look; it sports a metal body with plastic straps for a comfortable grip. The 5.5-inch screen with a resolution of 1,080 x 1,920 pixels which results in a pixel density of 401ppi which is brilliant for gaming and watching videos. The Corning Gorilla glass cushions the display from scratches and user marks. It comes with a fingerprint sensor for added security.
The GX8 brings EMUI 3.1, a Huawei layer over Android 5.1 Lollipop which offers a host of additional features and proves to be an ambitious one. It makes use of 1.5GHz octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 616 processor and houses an Adreno 405 GPU backed by 3GB RAM, hence managing simple and complicated tasks equally well.
Camera and Storage
The smartphone houses a 13 MP rear camera with autofocus and a sharp 5MP on the front which work equally well for the camera and selfie lovers. It performs well even in low light since it houses a dual LED flash. The colours are balanced and the HDR mode is very impressive, it comes with other standard inbuilt camera features such as Continuous Shooting, Digital image stabilization, Exposure compensation, Face detection, Geo tagging, High Dynamic Range mode (HDR) and ISO control among others.
The phone packs 32GB of internal storage which can be expanded up to 128 GB with an external microSD card.
Battery and Connectivity
The GX8 runs on a 3,000mAh battery and has which allows you to go without charging for a day and a half with taking about 2 hrs to fully recharge itself, as claimed by the company.
The dual SIM smartphone covers a wide range of connectivity options including Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth and 4G. It also includes Proximity sensor, Ambient light sensor, Accelerometer and Gyroscope.
