Affordable smartphone with good features
Design and Display
The Lava X38 exhibits a 5-inch IPS LCD display of HD resolution (720 x 1,280 pixels). The on-cell technology present present in the display gives it a higher touch accuracy, while the fully laminated technology makes the screen resistant to scratches. The device has a typical rectangular design with sharp edges and a textured back panel.
OS and Configuration
The smartphone comes with Android v6.0 (Marshmallow) operating system out of the box. Under the hood, the device has a 1GHz quad-core MediaTek MT6735P processor, paired with 1GB of RAM and Mali-T720 MP2GPU. This configuration seems modest at best, and the device might not be suitable for intensive usage.
Camera and Storage
Coming to photography, the smartphone comes with an 8MP main camera on the rear which is equipped with CMOS image sensor, autofocus and LED flash. On the front, there is a 2MP secondary camera also equipped with LED flash that helps in bringing clarity to selfies taken in low lighting conditions. The device harbours 8GB of internal storage which can be augmented up to 32GB using a microSD card. Storage space offered here seems a little low as nowadays most of the devices offer 16GB storage in this price range.
Connectivity and Battery
On the connectivity front, options available in this device are dual SIM, 4G with VoLTE, Wi-Fi with hotspot, Bluetooth v4.0, GPS and microusb 2.0. The device has five key sensors which are magnetometer, gravity, accelerometer, proximity and light sensors. The device is backed by a mammoth 4,000mAh li-polymer that company claims can last around 546 hours on standby with the Super Power Saver mode.
The Lava X38 is another good offering from the brand known for making good devices at an affordable price. The device hosts a number of good features and specs particularly its huge battery capacity which is its primary selling point. Although it does have some of its drawbacks, with average configuration and low storage space being the primary one which might discourage some users from opting for it.
