Smartphone for the masses or feature phone of the future? Samsung would gladly have it either way. The question rather is, will the Bada OS keep up the pace of its debut device. We’ve been following the new smart platform since its first public appearance. It’s not a particularly hard one to follow anyway, with a single phone announced so far and potential successors of the Samsung S8500 Wave only a whisper of a rumor. It will certainly take ...

Verdict: The Samsung S8500 Wave is the first phone to run a brand new OS and this may look great on its resume but isnÂ’t what makes it worthwhile. The potential is all there and the UI user-friendliness is at its peak so even if Bada OS never takes off, t...

The Samsung Wave is a big first for Samsung, but not just because it`s the phone that marks the debut of Bada u2013 it`s also the first phone on the market to uses Samsung`s brand new Super AMOLED screen tech, which promised deep rich colours, and just as......

    Pros: Beautiful and responsive

Cons: Perhaps too small for a modern smarpthone

Verdict: Super AMOLED has a huge future in phones - and you can have it right now in the Wave...

The WebKit-based Dolphin web browser is one of the best we\'ve used on a feature phone; it was able to render the Engadget site without drama (something some smartphones still struggle with). Scrolling is snappy and pinch-to-zoom works as advertised. There\'s no Flash support, however. Update: There\'s support for Flash 9, but it\'s disabled by default. The email client handles Gmail (and other providers) via POP3, IMAP4, and Exchange ActiveSync ...

The term “smartphone” has long been attached to the Android OS. It’s meant that many have perhaps classed the device as a business tool or a high cost handset. Now, with Android appearing in a wider range ofdevices in various shapes and sizes, we’re seeing cheaper handsets on the market.  Sometimes, especially in tablet form, Android can find its’ way into cheap handsets that fail to perform and perhaps give a ...

Verdict: Secondly, it is a model for the mass market. What is an average phone user`s take on smartphones? Such people look for a phone, not a computer of any sort, where you can or at times even have to install additional software (hello Windows Mobile). In....

From its confusing launch back in December 2009, to its feature-packed handset debut at Mobile World Congress and then all the way to the SlashGear test bench today, Samsung’s bada OS has had a rocky journey. Showing up for the first time on the Samsung Wave S8500, the new platform promises the flexibility of a smartphone OS with the easy usability of a feature-phone. That makes this a double review, perhaps: new platform, new phone. Does b...
