After 2 months use

I brought this Fonepad from local store.I have been using this tablet/phone (whatever you want to call it) for 2 months now.And yes I m using it as only device, and I don't care what people think when they see me talking on this. It fits in my jeans pocket. Not so long ago when Note1 was launched these people were saying that this phone is big and stupid. And nowadays every other phone comes with around same size that of the Note1.nnLets get to business...nWhats I found good?nThe HD Screen is absolute delight. Clarity(pixel density) is really good for this price. nSpecially reading books, Browsing, Flipping Flipboard are an absolute pleasure.nnBattery Life is above average. On heavy use it lasts me for a day, and for light to medium use it runs for one n half day. (I keep wifi on all the time).nNo heating issue at all.nnPlaying Videos/Movies with FullHD/1080p resolution are a treat on this device. No lag whatsoever.nN it doesn't eat up your battery if you keep video running for long timen( I even tried to play 4k video on it using MX player :-P it could only play an audio )nnTouch is buttery smooth. Design does give it a Royal look.nIts running almost a vannila android with some asus add-on features like MultiWindow which are really cool.Bloatwares can be disabled easily.nUSB OTG works fine.i.e. You can Connect Pen Drive with FAT format to fonepad using OTG cable.nnCamera?nI own a DSLR, so I dont use camera much. Both cameras back n front are terrible in low light, And average on Normal light.nnnNow whats wrong then?nIf you have gone into its SoC/ processors details, you must be knowing that it has single core processor with hyperthreading. Which essentially means it should work as fast as Dual core processor in theory. And to some extent it does work that good in practical use too.nBUT when u launch medium to heavy games it takes a little longer to load because of its x86 architecture. And there is a lag of 2-3 seconds at the start of some games like Subways surfer, major mayhem. but again thereafter game runs really smooth.nnI find this 7"incher ideal for playing games like Fruit Ninja,Clash of Titans, Candy Crush, Paper Toss.nnIf you are a gamer (you should know that this has PowerVR SGX540 GPU which is I believe is 5 years old) and want to play really heavy games like dead trigger n asphalt7, DON'T BUY THIS. n Don't read the further review.nnnNow to the biggest problem with this device.."SD card unmount" issue..nAfter 2 months of observation I finally figured out the problem with SD card.nnFor some strange reasons, If you are on 2G network and you switched on your Mobile data / edge connection due to some witchcraft SD card unmounts itself. To add to that the option of mounting Sd card from Settings > Storage disappears. And then to get your SD card working again you have to Manually remove top cover and have reisert a card...nNow the workaround to this problem is I have kept my fonepad on 3G always option.nnThere are about 5-6 small updates released by ASUS since I brought this Fonepad and after last update the problem was solved to about 25%. Im hoping it will get resolved completely in next update.nP.S. I did went to ASUS service centre n guy just wont listen to me despite me telling him that problem is there only with 2G internet on.. He had no knowledge of android and it was the first time everyone at service center have seen this device. And he kept telling me that my Sd card in incompatible (which is brand new San Disk 16 GB class 4 n most commonly used card in India). I did tried it with other cards n still the problem was there.nAfter a double trip to service center I searched on internet and SD card problem was common to other users too.n(User accessible memory is about 3-4GB so you will need a SD card).nnFinal VerdictnWhat this fonepad is a device for people who want to replace there phone n laptop with single device that can be carried around.nIf you want BIG HD display for Browsing, Reading, Videos, Light gaming in about 15k, This is a best device currently available in India and certainly lot better than samsung Tab2 n even Tab3 7"inchers.nIf you use 2G internet a lot then wait till they resolve SD card problem, Or you can get new 32GB model which is 2K more with "slightly" faster CPU.nnNote: There are no Headphones in Box. I am using Samsung EHS44 headphones which you can use if you feel embarrassed holding it to ear to take call. These are common headphones which comes with samsung devices, and available separately.n(This is a first time I wrote review on Flipkart :) )nnUPDATE : USB OTG is working : nI see lot of people complaining about USB device not working.nIt wont work out of the box. USB OTG was enabled for me after I updated my fonepad with OTA update.nMouse, Keyborad, Flash drive with FAT format working fine, no problems at all...nI use my fonepad for DSLR controller to control my Canon DSLR over USB OTG. N it is also working great.

Pathetic after sales service

A friend of mine bought this tablet in January. I asked him about the review of this product. He said "If the product works fine, it's a good purchase but if it fails, you'll be tortured by ASUS service centre in getting it back to normal state ". The basic problem was that the motherboard had going bad completely within two months of purchase. When asked for repairing at service centre, they quoted the price much higher(Rs 18k) than the cost of the product(Rs 15k). It was surprising to understand how a motherboard can cost higher than the product.nI would recommend you to not buy this product as I did not buy it too after this suggestion.nnAlso, Flipkart deleted review of one of the reviewer and my friend Gaurav. He was sent an email by flipkart to remove his review and when he did not remove it, flipkart deleted the deview.nAs his review was against ASUS and its product which might be decreasing the sales, they prefer to keep user preference and customer satisfaction below their sales. Never expected this from flipkart.

Just bought Fonepad 7 from Flipkart

Friends, I have been referring about the best tab to buy around 20k for over a month. I have considered Samsung TAB 3, NVIDIA TEGRA TAB, NEXUS 7 2013 and Fonepad 7.nnFonepad 7 is by faaar the best tab ever made in the mid range. It outlives the hype made about Nexus and Tab 3.nnProsn+The phone features are as good as a normal smart phone, and tab is better than a non-phone tab. So, you get twice for the same moneyn+ Finish is top class. (though build quality can be improved)n+You get to choose 3G or Wifi for net, which makes it convenientn+Intel performs better than Snapdragon in every possible way.n+Music quality is awesome(though it is not loud enough for indian taste). You can hear every minute detail in the musicn+Asus mini apps are a new dimension to androidn+Flipkart service is too goodnnConsn+A bit heavy to holdn+Glossy screen is bad(buy a matt finish screen guard)n+No flash in camerannBottomline:nAll Nexus lovers and Tegratab lovers, FonePad 7 is by far my product of the year...Go for it.. Il give it 4.5/5

not at all good ASUS zer quality !! bad mobo, bad router, bad phones, worst firmwares and now worst tablet

Looks - 3/5 nVery simplennBuild - 2/5 nNot at all impressive built is that of old Micromax phones. The power button was malfunctioning since day 1. I had to replace it WS seller replaced it for me in a weeks time. In the new piece, power button is working but it is not at all sturdy it will surely spoil within few months.nThere is no protection for MicroSD slot which is in the side. Its open! So its a headache during Monsoon. Plus dust will go inside easily.nMaterial is full plastic and you can see uneven surfaces and gaps at many places like one sees in chinese phones.nThere is no Gorilla Glass for such a big screen so a Screen Guard is a must.nYou cant remove the battery so tough to root this device in future.nPhablet is very heavy so not Mobile.nnUI and OS - 1/5nBugs and bloatwares nothing else !!!! Laggy like anything since kitkat... Call drops always first time... then works fine second time.... and terrible updates because...nNOTE : with one of the OTA update there was no network for all owners of this tablet for almost a month till they released a bug fix update again!!! IMAGINE!!!nnCamera - 3/5nCamera is good taking into consideration the price. Its a simple 5MP cam and ya it does feel like 5MP. Can only be used for timepass clicks ad notes and not for photography at all.nFront cam is VGA its good for Videocalling.nBoth cams are useless in the dark. There is no flash. nnMusic - 3/5nMusic output is good if used with good headphones like JBL, Sony etc. Device doesnt come with headphones. nBesides there is a problem with all fonepads. Headphones will fail to detect when you put first time. Then when you remove headset, it will show that headset is plugged and music will start playing on speakers automatically! After some initial plug ins and outs, headphones will start getting detected properly and will play properly then. Please insert headphones fully in its a bit tight you need to push hard.nnCall Quality - 2/5nnot at all clear and have to hold it in a special way wtf!!!nnNetwork - 3/5nWorks fine now! 3G working good and also Wifi is functioning properly.nNOTE : with one of the OTA update there was no network for all owners of this tablet for almost a month till they released a bug fix update again!!! IMAGINE!!!nnBrowsing - 4/5nNo Problem!nnPerformance - 2/5nsince kitkat the phone lags like crazy... performance is terrible man! nnDisplay - 3.5/5nDisplay is not bright enough. Gotto keep it at 100% for medium brightness. Viewing angle is good alomst 175 degrees cause of IPS technology but again I dont like that people besides you can see everything. PPI is only 206 and Resolution is 1280x800. But still the color reproduction is fair and clarity is pretty fine. Its very glossy so too much reflective and too many fingerprints. Dont forget to buy a Matte Finish Screen Guard for this one. You will get on eBay not in local stores. No Gorilla Glass so thats a very big headache! For overall daily task, display is not bad at all.nnBattery - 3/5nlasts half day maxnnMemory - 4.5/5n16GB internal (11GB available) and 64GB expandable. 1GB RAM available as said but 1.5GB wouldve been better causer 780MB is used by the OS. Plus you can insert any Pendrive it has OTG feature and its working. So virtually you have infinite memory!nnSpeakers - 1/5nPathetic! Its has dual speakers but the volume is extremely low! The volume of my LG phone with single small speaker is way better! With this phablet you need say goodbye to text to speech, google now speech output and whatsapp voice chatting. Really disappointing speakers I dont know what Asus was doing that it went ahead with such shameful speakers!nnFinal Verdict - waste - 1.5/5

More than satisfied Overall great tablet computing experience

Bought this tab after extensive/exhausting research on internet. Using fonepad for 4 weeks now.I am very satisfied, great performance--full paisa vasool tab.nThe best part is it's screen quality (7" LED Backlight WXGA (1280x800)nIPS Panel, 216ppi).nnPro:nn1. Value for money./budget friendly./doesn't burn hole in pocket(at least not too big) while delivering good smooth android tablet experience.nn2.Screen quality(216ppi).nn3.Internet runs fast (used on 3G and WiFi).nn4.Voice call quality good.nn5.All rounder.nn6.Battery is good and charges fast.nn7.Interface is user friendly, easy to use.nn8.Touch response is very good, sometimes too sensitive(it has 10 pt. touch).nn9.Build quality(Metallic back)-premium.nn10.International Brand-ASUS behind it, the same that makes Google nexus7.nn11.Intel Processor(1.2 GHz with Hyper-threading)--though not considered very fast these days, but still works great.nn12.Android 4.1 out of box(upgradable to 4.2)nn13.Floating appsnn14>Tech supportnn15>Runs most apps smoothly.Graphic quality is good.nn16>No heating issue experienced.nnCons:nn1.Tab speakers not loud.(any 3.5mm jack headphone can be connected though).nn2.Single core Intel processor considered not very muscular these days, but works for me.(another variant has a 1.6GHz processor)nn3.Not the best tab for heavy gaming purpose, normal games(subway surfer, temple run etc) runs good on it.If gaming is the priority ,go for Google Nexus tabs.nn4.Accessories like exact carrycase, backcover, screen guard--hard to find.nn5.No Android 4.2 out of box.nn6.Camera is not very impressive.,but nice.nn7.Slippery back and difficult to open back top cover(for SIM,SD card slots).nn8.Internal memory 8GB only (expandable 32GB SD card) and available in single colour only.Apps install on internal memory.nn9.Phone functionality will be useless, if intended to be used as a comuting Tablet only.nn10. A few apps hangs, probably not optimized for x86 based tab. nnFor me ideally:Asus fonepad should have be totally focused on tablet function only, with 8" screen size,1.6 GHz processor and 16 GB internal memory--leading to a perfect budget friendly tab.nnOverall: Great tablet computing experience esp. web browsing, light gaming,calling-texting,casual drawing.Beats Samsung Tab2 and now Tab3,and other tabs in this price segment, for me.As u can see cons mentioned are not much of an issue w.r.t. pros.
