A Worthy Product !!

After much research over internet, I zeroed-in on this lappy... It has everything you want from a lappy plus it's pretty much in your budget... I ordered it via Flipkart and the product was delivered to me in 3 days.. Packaging was good, as per Flipkart's standards.. Laptop exteriors are good (it's not very clear in the display pic, but in reality, it looks better than in the pic). I installed Windows 7 Ultimate edition ... Got installed without any troubles... Installed the drivers provided along with the laptop... All got installed properly... But when I was right-clicking on the desktop screen, I was not getting any option for Graphic card control panel (if your system boasts of a graphic card, you should have an option for that)... I checked in the device manager, it was showing both Intel HD Graphics as well as NVidia Graphics drivers installed.. I uninstalled both the drivers and tried to install only nvidia drivers, but then it gave an error that my hardware does not support this driver (!!!)... Then I again did some research over internet and found out that NVidia GeForce 610M graphics card follows Optimus technology.. It means that both the s/w graphics (here Intel HD 3000) and h/w graphics (Nvidia card) are used in this mechanism... The s/w graphics will be used for normal tasks... H/W graphics will be used only where required (like when u play games)... So, the trick here is to first install the Intel graphics drivers, only THEN install the Nvidia graphic driver. Also, DO NOT UPDATE your Nvidia graphics drivers from anywhere... The graphic drivers provided in the CD is the only version that works properly with this card... NVidia has not released this version properly... I am actually a bit put off by this, hence only 4 stars, or else wud have given 5 stars... Anyways, follow the above mentioned procedure and ur graphics issue will be resolved (Asus, I should be really paid for my hard work here) ;) Once you have installed all the drivers, update your BIOS version... I got version 2.5 in the CD... on their website, I got version 2.6... It's a simple process... You'll get step-by-step process on the Asus website... After this, run Asus LiveUpdate... The most important update installed here is SonicFocus... Without this, the speakers seem pretty lame... Once SonicFocus gets installed, you will have a good set of laptop speakers :) For voice clarity and quality, I will rate it 8/10... One remark I will like to make here is that in the specs, it's mentioned that camera resolution is 0.3 MP... But in reality, the image quality is much better (I have seen 0.3 MP camera in Toshiba Satellite series laptops. It really sucks. Just a dull dark image)... It's pretty much passable for your normal Skype chats n stuff... The processing speed is also good... I was weighing my options earlier whether I should go for I3 or I5 processors... I3 processor is a dual-core processor... I5 processors have both options viz. dual-core or quad-core... After much research over net I found out that in laptops, I5 is only dual-core... The only diff b/w I3 and I5 is that I5 core is having 10-15% more processing power and the ability to over-clock... Since I was having a limited budget, I settled down for a bit of less processing power and no over-clocking (I5 version of this lappy comes for 39K)... The screen is amazingly good .... I love watching HD movies ... clarity is crispy.. The only thing that I didn't like in this laptop is the keyboard quality... It feels very plasticy and cheap ... Plus you can feel the depression when you type... Hope I get used to that... Anyway, hope you have got all the info for this laptop in my review here. Ciao.

My first Laptop ASUS

First let me tell you that I'm very satisfied with this laptop and the service from Flipkart, got it delivered in 3 days...Packaging was good. I'm using it for the past 10 days...and thought to write my opinion about this product so the others can benefit. Let me tell you that i have to choose this laptop over 2 others (Lenovo G580 (59-324061) / HP G6-2005AX AMD A8 Quad Core)....and trust me it was not so easy...but finally I'm glad i decided on Asus. Pros : 1) Gerat looks, very decent....and feel good quality 2) speed: no wonder 13 processor and 4GB DDR3 RAM with 2gb GPU it's perfect combination works great, for now played PES5. 3) Good widescreen ....very crisp and good to watch HD movies 4) Palm rest, awesome aluminum finish & very soft keyboard 5) camera is just average...what more to expect from 0.3mp 6) battery backup 3 - 4 hours while in use...which is very good. 7) Oh yes....Speakers, there's nothing to complain as others do, very good clarity and decent sound.. Cons : just one thing worries me I leave my laptop with 100% charged, when i check it after 12 hours it's 85% .......I don't know if it's normal or what...but would like to know if this happens to others too.

Awesome laptop

I've been using this laptop for the past 2-3 weeks and I would like to share my views on it. I had done much research on a budget laptop with high specifications and ended up on this nice notebook. It comes with free DOS pre-installed on it, so that way you save money on the software. Windows 7 64bit drivers CD is provided in the box. Since I had a 32-bit Win7 at home, I had to download and install the drivers from the Asus website. But I had a problem with the bluetooth drivers, as bluetooth was not working even after installing the necessary bluetooth drivers. I had called asus support and they offered various suggestions, which did not work out. Finally, they suggested to just get a 64-bit windows from friends and then install the drivers from the CD given. But since my friends too didn't have 64-bit windows, I haven't tried the laptop with 64-bit windows. Later I installed ubuntu, a debian-linux based free operating system. Surprisingly, there was absolutely no need of any drivers and everything including bluetooth was working fine. I had installed ubuntu while connected to the internet, so that probably did the trick. But the problem with ubuntu was that the screen would be blank after I closed the lid while working and then opened it. Only unity2D would be possible, even after selecting unity3D. Quite surprising, since this laptop has a 2GB graphics card. This laptop looks quite sexy from any angle. It is very sleek. The shiny lid is prone to fingerprints, but you can easily wipe them off with your hands. The screen does catch a bit of dust like any other laptop does. The air vent at the left side releases quite a lot of heat, which I think is responsible for the body being cool, although it does get a bit warm after prolonged use. Games play smoothly, but heavy games drain the battery quickly. So it's better to connect power before playing. Otherwise, it gives 4hrs on one full charge. Sound quality is very nice when playing youtube videos and songs on VLC. So guys, if you want a premium laptop under 35k, go for it. There's no other laptop better than this one in it's class. It's got BT3.0, USB3.0, HDMI, card reader, etc. If you want to install windows, then better have a 64-bit Win7 and install the drivers provided in the CD. Overall, a very good laptop from Asus. My rating-9/10

ASUS!! I expected much better from you!!

I can no longer stand to see how not so tech savy customers looking for a good gaming platform are being fooled into buying laptops bundled with very low end Nvidia 610m's, like this one, just because it carries an nvidia badge. I'm gonna clear some misconceptions here. For a powerfull gaming card, the GPU core used is the most important part, NOT the amount of memory. The TYPE of graphics memory is much more important. For almost all cards, at 1360x768 resolution, 512MB GDDR5 memory will be significantly faster than lower bandwidth DDR3/DDR2 memory, even if it's size is 2GB. Even if it was 8GB DDR3 it will make NO difference, because the GPU core cannot make use of all that extra memory. In short, the extra memory you are paying for is a waste!! Incase both chips have the same DDR3 memory, then just buy the 1GB version. Consider the case of a tata nano. If you attach a 200 liter fuel tank to it, it doesn't become a ferarri !! The engine of the nano is just too weak, like the nvidia 610m used here. For a decent gaming expirence on laptops, you should atleast start considering medium power cards like the Nvidia 630m/Radeon 7670m. For example, for those considering a GAMING PC in the 30-40k range, you can get a MUCH MUCH better deal with the HP G6-2010AX laptop. Let me explain. Although the A8's CPU is a bit weaker than the i3 in single threaded software, it's an excellent multitasker, and it does very well with modern mutli-threaded and OpenCL accelerated software. The spotlight however, is on the Radeon 7670M graphics chip. It's equivalent to a nvidia 630m, and will very easily DESTROY low end chips like the nvidia 610m and the integrated Intel HD3000 graphics in gaming. Infact, even AMD's integrated Radeon 7640G is more powerful than both the 610m and Intel HD3000!!! And if you CrossFire the dual Radeon graphics, you've got yourself a graphics monster:) On top of that, for 2-3k cheaper, you get a 1TB harddisc, and 6GB's of RAM, and a nice 90W laptop charger:) Now that's what you call Value for money!! :D Asus usually has good laptops in the 50-60k range, but this model is a waste of money.

Not Bad

The 2GB 610 M graphics card is a basic one, it has 2 GB but not performing like the latest models. Speakers not as expected. Cam is also too bad in quality. They have given what people want but reduced quality in all aspects, except the aluminum finish. The graphic card drivers also will have some problems if installed directly through auto run of disc provided. Power backup is good. If anyone looking for ASUS then go for something with a different graphic card.
