Okay but for the key and track pad

I bought it from another website. I generally refrain from writing reviews but for this product I am making an exception as I was not able to find really helpful reviews of this products anywhere. I am just hoping that my fellow buyers make an informed decision while making up their minds and this review helps them. Anyways coming to the product, I was looking to buy a portable system for some time and I was doing research for almost 2 months. I wanted to go for Apple Macbook Pro 13 inches but was limited by the budget at this point in time. Then I decided on Dell Inspiron with touch but I was not too inclined for touch and also I read quite a lot -ve reviews of the same as well hence decided against it. Finally after comparing a lot of netbooks and going through the internet for almost all the reviews possible (there are not many for this particular model), I decided on this piece. Mind you in the past I have used various brands like Acer, HP, Dell, Lenovo etc. and this was the first time for ASUS. So here i my first impression from the initial 3 days of usage - 1. Hardware (Processor/RAM etc) - Will take you through the day. Nothing to boast about. Performance is OK however my HP G42 from 2010 with core i3 380M 1st generation (from 2010) fares much better compared to Core i3 4010U in this netbook.. you can extend the RAM till 8 GB which s good. 2. Keypad - The worst part... a total nightmare. Is is absolutely disappointing and sad as it looks quite flimsy, feels strange while you type as if you might break the keys and if you don't apply right pressure while typing, then you end up correcting the spellings as mostly it just wont register. Also they make weird kind of noise while typing. So if you you want a netbook for lots of typing.. look somewhere else. Right now, I am correcting every other word that I type on this keypad so you can make out the pain. The fonts are pasted by some sort of sticker on the keys which look quite cheap. Expected better from Asus. 3. Track-pad - Touch so-so, they looks and sounds quite fragile with every time you press or tap it will make strange noise. The build quality of these two (Keypad and track-pad) is pathetic to say the least. Its complete plastic and that too not of great quality. ASUS has provided some gesture support which takes some time to get used to but is fine once you are comfortable with them, eases your burden a little. But due to the size ratio and placement of the trackpad, you invariably end up touching it while typing which opens up other windows or programs causing unnecessary frustration. 4. Portability - I bought this netbook for this very reason and it is extremely light and portable. Also it is quite silent. Its the only silver lining I would say. 5. Battery - Well you need to play with power management to get the best out of it. On balance power setting it is giving me 4 to 4:30 approx which is good. 6. Charger - Its like a mobile charger and not like the conventional power adapters adding to its portability. 7. Glare screen is good for night working as it doesn't strain the eyes like anti glare ones which are more bright. The bezel around the screen is quite big though on all 4 sides, making it look bigger than it should be. 8. Comes pre-loaded with Win 8.1, another reason I went for this and not another sibling of it with same configuration but with DOS (around 22.5K) 9. Body is fingerprint magnet, u will have to clean it up every-time you work on this laptop. 10. Also comes with 1 HDMI, 1 USB 3.0 and 2 USB 2.0 ports, a 2 in 1 card reader and common jack for mic/headphone 11. Webcam is pathetic.. dont even think about using it. 12. Speaker is quite OK for the size of the netbook. In a nut shell, If you are looking to buy a netbook in this segment (11-11.6 inches) I would suggest to buy this netbook only after you have compared the same with other laptops in same segment though almost all of them are more expensive than this one. However if you can stretch yourself till 33-35K suggest you go with Dell Inspiron which has a better screen, build quality and most important keypad and track pad and not to mention looks. If Size and OS is not a constraint go for Fujitsu 15.6 inches which is around 23.5 with better processor (2.4 GHz, build quality, screen and usability). If you can shell out 50K go for Apple Macbook pro 13 inches.. Why because its an apple and the rest are just Toys:) Its the only macbook which can be upgraded(HDD, RAM etc) and is absolute joy to use and gives 100% satisfaction. Note: This review has been written on the same netbook and due to its keypad I have spent around 10 minutes correcting the spellings:( Mind you I am a computer engineer working in an IT firm so its not my typing but the keypad). If you are still able to find spelling mistakes in the review, you know what to blame:(

Poor Product

I bought this laptop assuming Asus is a good company. But the laptop is very poor in build quality. Touchpad has become very less responsive within 2 months of buying. A key has also come off. The laptop crashes again and again with error "FAULTY HARDWARE CORRUPTED PAGE". Dont buy Asus ever..
