User Reviews for Asus X53U-SX358D Laptop (APU Dual Core/2 GB/500 GB/DOS) Laptop

First things first. I bought this laptop about three weeks back at a price of ~17500. This includes a full multimedia keyboard + optical mouse + headphone + neoprene sleeve along with this beauty of a laptop. This laptop comes with 15.6 inch display, DVD read+write, 1 gbps LAN, 3 USB ports, WiFi, Bluetooth (yes, flipkart does not mention, but it has). The provided RAM is 2 GB and processor is 64 bit, 1 GHz, dual core. The HDD capacity id 500 GB. I am using triple boot (windows 8, Debain Linux, Lubuntu Linux, all of 64 bits) operating system on this machine. And I always use the external keyboard and mouse (save the inbuilt keyboard for emergency). About the performance : I am extremely satisfied with this machine. Though this is my first personal laptops, I have always been provided PCs for personal use by office. They also provided the win8 I am using on this machine. I use it mainly for document preparation, movies, music and surfing the web. The slow processor becomes noticeable only when I open more than 15-20 tabs on my browser with a lot of them playing flash videos. Needless to say, this was just for testing. I am not an avid gamer so cannot vouch for this ... I hardly own any game and have rarely played a computer/video game in my life, nor am i interested. So I would like to hear from other users about the game performance of this laptop. About the connectivity : with win8, bluetooth works so flawlessly and allows you to control your smartphone from the laptop. I have also used wifi hotspotting with this laptop to connect my mobile and it too works smoothly. The LAN is rated at 1GBPS and it truly is 1GBPS. No issues. About the display panel : There is a caveat regarding the display - it does not have an anti-reflective coating. which means that while watching a movie, you must either keep the brightness level high or keep the ambient light low. For me, this is somewhat irritating. About the sound : The inbuilt sound quality and clarity is the one of the best among all laptops, if not the absolute best. About the graphics : The inbuilt graphics card maker, Radeon was recently acquired by ASUS and with good reasons. All the graphics effect are effortlessly handled by this 64 bit chip, keeping the CPU free for more important tasks. Gamers wud have more to say on this issue, I guess. About the battery : this is the most awesome battery performance I have seen in any laptop. It easily gives me ~ 6 hours of backup in normal circumstances. I have further done some power saving tweaks -- 1. keep the brightness the lowest possible. choose a dark theme for windows and browser. 2. keep the processor underclocked to about 75% of its peak power. this also keeps the heat much lower and will improve battery life. since i do not play games, i cud even underclock it to 60%. 3. use a power setting such that the display is switched off if you leave the laptop unattended for as little as a minute. I am used to keeping the PC turned on permanently and thats the way I use this laptop. It has been switched ON constantly since I bought it except for travel time. And LAN is also always on so that windows update can work smoothly. I have never faced any heating/lagging/battery problem. My charger is also always turned on. See various tutorials on the web as to why this is a good practice. What extra I wished ? :: 1 TB HDD, atleast 2Ghz processor, 4GB RAM. But considering that I paid less than 17 thousands for this machine, I have got a very good deal. Finally, I highly recommend this laptop. You will never regret it. Even somewhat pricier laptops may be inferior to this one.

The Processor is a bit slow but much faster than any comparative Intel Processor in the price range. Graphics is unusually good and the package comes with a Bluetooth v4.0 though it is not written under communication section of the Product Specification. In summary a great choice for Budget Laptops for day to day use and work. Only drawback is that it lacks USB 3.0 port.

Pros. 1. Best value for money. 2. Really fast processor at this price range.(The processor is not blazing fast, but really does its job). 3. Radeon HD 6290 is amazing; graphics looks crystal clear. 4. 15.6 inch clear bright screen. Blu-Ray movies looks fantastic. 5. Unbelievable battery backup. I'm getting almost 6 hours. 6. Asus ice cool technology does its job as promised. The palm resting area remains cool even after long use. 7. Overall nice experience with this laptop. For 19000 its a killer machine. Cons. 1. Touch pad buttons should be pressed hard. They also making some irritating noise when pressed. 2. Keys are not good for fast typing. 3. Speakers are not loud enough. You might want to get external speakers. Sound output through headphones are really loud. Final Verdict. If you want a laptop under 20000. Then look no further. Last but not the least, thumbsup to Asus for making this laptop at this price range.

I have been using ASUS X53U for the last about 2 years+. Earlier I have used other brands, but switched to ASUS X53U due to AMD processor and Cool performance even in NON AC farm environment. Till date I have purchased about nine of this machine for my staff and even gifting. However there is a small problerm too. The ridge between Ket Board and Touch pad brushes with the Screen when shut. this causes a scar on the screen. This can be done away with by removing serrations on the edge of ridge and making it smoother. Increasing size of robber studs will cause dust getting in.

One of the best buy in the category for users using less application. I have brought it outside flipkart, but the reviews helped me a lot to buy this one. Battery back up is superb and the Graphics is unbelievable. I do suggest the buyers that, if you want a budget laptop go for this one.
