Great laptop but slightly overpriced

Jumping straight to pros n cons: Pros: 1. Great design. You'll love it ! 2. Nvidia GeForce GTX 850M is good enough for heavy duty games like Assasin's Creed, Crysis 2 & 3, NFS MW 2012, GTA IV, Max Payne 3 and many more 3. Good sound clarity and numeric key pad attached 4. Very responsive and smooth touchpad Cons: 1. No backlit keyboard (would have been great if there were) and hence its almost impossible to see keys if you're in a dark room 2. Gets slightly overheated while gaming, but that's an problem is in every laptop you'll find 3. Single jack for mic and speaker 4. 3 USB ports. 4 would have been better at this price Rest assured laptop is great. If looking for a decent looking and a starting level hardcore gaming laptop at around 65k then go fot it !!

Great laptop, but Asus could have done better.

First of all, I would like to point out some information missing here:- 1) The model number is X550JK-DM132H and not X551JK-DM132H. 2) 4GB of RAM is burnt onto the motherboard and there is a single RAM slot which is occupied by a 4GB RAM chip - making it a total of 8GB. There is a single slot for RAM expansion which is used. This may cause problems if you later want to upgrade your RAM. This motherboard supports up to 16GB of RAM. Since there is a single slot, you can remove the 4GB RAM chip and put in an 8GB RAM chip, so it totals 12 GB (8GB chip + 4GB on board). You cannot upgrade to more than 12GB RAM - only due to design problems. 3) There are two USB 3.0 ports and one USB 2.0 port. 4) There is a VGA port which can be connected to a projector. 5) There is an Ethernet port. 6) It has a 1TB hard disk drive at 7200 RPM. 7) There is a single, combo audio jack for microphone and headphone. 8) It has got dual, inbuilt microphones. 9) The product is not as the images suggest. The laptop is totally black, with red graphics, and the letters on the keyboard are red coloured. The palm rest is not grey as the images suggest. Pros:- 1) As opposed to the U series of Intel i7 processors, which are just dual core processors with hyper threading (2 cores, 4 threads), this super fast laptop comes loaded with an Intel i7-4710HQ processor which is quad core with hyper threading (4 cores, 8 threads). 2) Comparatively cheaper than laptops of competing brands. Lenovo Ideapad Z510 was a good competitor to this laptop - but it is discontinued now. 3) It has an nVidia GTX 850M graphics processor - a rare feature at this price. 4) Sleek, slim and beautiful design. Red graphics on a black body looks very beautiful. Cons:- 1) Letters on the keyboard are red in colour - it's a pain to type in dim light. No keyboard light. 2) Single RAM slot for expansion - which is used. No unused slots for RAM expansion. 3) Seamless keyboard - which means that in case you accidentally spill any liquid - then you would have to replace the whole palm rest. 4) Low capacity battery - 2950 mAh - lasts for 1 and half hours with 75% brightness and under low load (watching a 720p movie). 5) The hard disk heats up a bit more than usual - around 41 deg Celsius (it's right under the palm rest). 6) The palm rest and laptop lid is not resistant to finger prints. 7) It has a VGA, 0.3 MP camera.

bang for the buck

I bought my laptop online(not from flipkart) for an offer price of 63,000 Rupees(MRP - Rs 69,999) . CPU - core i7 4710HQ GPU - gtx 850M HDD - 1 TB 7200 RPM DISPLAY - 1920x1080 Twisted Nematic Panel I/O - 2xUSB 3.0 1xUSB 2.0 , VGA, LAN,HDMI, Combined Mic/Headphone 3.5mm jack, SD card slot and a Kensington lock slot I consider it as a real bang-for-the-buck, because the only other laptop which offers a similar specification as this one is the lenovo y50-70 which is atleast 12,000 Rupees more than this one here. The Y50 has a better GPU and double the VRAM and a backlit keyboard but those are not absolute must haves for a mid-range gaming laptop ,atleast not in my experience. The box came with a laptop bag,a mouse and the powerbrick(which by the way is very big but lean). The Asus G551JK(ROG) laptop has the exact same GPU and CPU as the X550JK ( i really wonder what this JK stands for). I've looked up the geekbench score for both these laptops and they are pretty much the same . Now the design and colour of the laptop is also very similar to the ROG series with red accents all over including the keyboard. The keyboard is not backlit and is impossible to see under low light conditons . It has a Full HD screen too like the G551JK with a matte finish and it cuts out all the reflections as expected. The only advantage might be the ROG backlit branding logo and metallic finish and backlit keyboard and maybe just maybe an improved cooling system. I think you can easily make that up with a laptop cooling pad if at all necessary(by the way I have a belkin cooling pad along with a strong cool exhaust fan which provides sufficient air flow during gameplay). The G551JK is about 20,000 Rs more by the way. It offers pretty good gaming performance and I could run MK X at very high settings at 1080p and GTA 5 too at 1080p with high and very high details (with normal texture quality) and advanced graphics settings untouched. I swapped out the obsolete and useless DVD drive with an SSD for installing the OS and it is splendid. The maximum supported RAM is 16 GB but you can only upgrade to 12 GB because 4 GB is already soldered onto the motherboard. The RAM and HDD bay are easily accessible and can be opened up by removing 2 screws. The keyboard feedback is mediocre and not suitable for gaming and as I said, is useless in the dark. I bought a darksector backlit keyboard to cover that issue anyways. The TN panel is also mediocre with the viewing angles being so narrow, but the full HD display does help to sharpen up the details. But that is not at all a deal breaker when it comes to gaming or everyday use .Infact, TN display is the best for gaming compared to IPS because of the rapid pixel response rate offered by it . Touchpad is OK but not that great as I prefer dedicated left and right click buttons instead of the single slab . The lid can be opened only with 2 hands which I personally dislike . Overall build quality is excellent and the palm rest area is nicely and subtly textured with a dot pattern but the outer area of the lid i.e. the surface is glossy plastic and it is highly prone to smudges and scratches (which is why I used a laptop skin to cover it up). It boasts of having IceCool technology which offers to keep the palmrest area "ice cool" - something which I dont think is as Cool as I like it to be during gaming. There is still no explanation on what exactly is and how this technology works. There are very few reviews about this particualar model on the internet and I think this might help someone who is looking to buy this . Now for the price I got it, this laptop is the best in class and I would highly recommend this to anyone who is on a medium budget and looking for ample gaming horsepower. The GTX 850M with a 4710HQ i7 is quite decent and for the same price you wont get any other laptops which offer both this GPU/CPU combination. There are laptops with GTX850M and ultra low power i7 processors but they cannot offer the same firepower as this one right here. I dont think Asus is marketing this specific model like it should inspite of having very good ratings. This I think is an online only model and retail dealers around me are unaware that this thing even exists. Anyways, this is the best budget gaming laptop you can get in India right now and I can only say- just go for it.

Unmatched best high mid level gaming notebook

Bought this on local retail for 64k INR. We couldn't find a notebook at this price range that plays almost recent titles in 1080p high quality graphic setting. To mention go for X550jk instead of x551jk, you can get matte screen, 7200rpm HDD, 2 USB 3.0 and a nice graphic skin on the laptop. Games I have played: Far Cry 4 - Ultra / 25 FPS, Watch Dogs - High / 30 FPS, NFS MW - Ultra / 60 FPS, SC Blacklist - Ultra / 25 FPS. Waiting for GTA V release.

The best laptop in rs65000

ThiAsus X551JK-DM132H X Series Core i7 (4th Gen) - 15.6 iThis This Laptop is the best at this price range. I have used it for 10 days. Its cpu is the best at this price range. Its gpu is besf at this price range. Its screen is the best at this price range but not touch. I have played many games like GTA 4, Watch Dogs, BattleField 4, Grid 2, Batman Arkham origins, Coll of duty, etc. It was my best gaming expirence till now. It heats up a little if you will play this games for 80 minutes. Only con of this laptop is that it only have 1*Usb 2.0 port.
