V Narayana, Chilakalapudi Circle Inspector, said that Prabhu and his cousins were playing Player Unknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG)/Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI), a multi-player survival game on the night of June 1st and Prabhu lost the match. The family members mocked Prabhu for losing, and his father forbade him from playing BGMI/PUBG continuously for hours. Prabhu got upset because the cousins made fun of him in front of others.

Police Inspector Narayana said,(via) “After dinner, he slept alone in a room and committed suicide by hanging. Family members said the boy used to play games on the mobile phone most of the time and was depressed after making fun of him for losing the game. When his father knocked on the door on Sunday morning, he did not open. The family members broke open the door only to see the boy hanging from the fan.”

However, Prabhu’s mother has raised doubts over the teenager’s death and raised a case of suspicious death under section 174 of the CrPC. “Based on her complaint, a case of suspicious death under Section 174 of the CrPC was registered,” said the police.
