6000mAh battery in a foldable? vivo X Fold5 makes it happen and how

Not too long ago, foldable smartphones were seen as bulky and impractical, which made them more of a tech showcase than a daily driver. But that’s no longer the case, and vivo has been one of the key players leading the shift. With the arrival of the vivo X Fold3, things changed as the phone offered a sleek build, reliable performance, and genuinely useful features. It proved that foldables could be both premium and practical. Now, with the vivo X Fold5, vivo takes that vision even further.

With the vivo X Fold5, vivo has combined flagship performance, a sleek design, and useful productivity features in a slim, easy-to-carry form. Building on the success of the X Fold3 Pro, the X Fold5 introduces smarter hardware, brighter displays, and thoughtful features that add real value to everyday life.

With this combination of power, portability and polish, the vivo X Fold5 feels like a foldable that gets the formula just right.

Slim, light and premium

The vivo X Fold5 is slimmer and lighter than its predecessor and doesn’t compromise on display or performance. It is also said to be one of the slimmest foldable phone in the Indian market and is lighter than many other foldable phones, as well as some non-foldable flagship devices.

When you first look at it, the vivo X Fold5 feels quite sleek and well-balanced. Unfold the phone and you will see that the gently curved edges flow seamlessly into a polished metal frame, which not only looks premium but adds just enough grip without overwhelming the design. There’s also a dual-layer coating at the back that lends it a soft texture while the flat, colour-matched camera module keeps the overall aesthetic minimal and symmetric from every angle. The phone comes in an elegant, Titanium Grey colour option, which feels thoughtfully chosen, not just trendy.

The phone also comes with an industry-first kinematic hinge. This is a rotating-sliding mechanism made using FS55 steel (the same high-strength material used in tunnel boring machines). The new hinge not only enables smoother folding but also reduces screen crease visibility by a significant margin, making the inner display feel flatter and more seamless than before.

Brighter and vibrant display

Foldable phones often have to compromise on the display to achieve thinner builds, but vivo seems to have avoided that. On the X Fold5, both the inner and outer displays are standouts in their own right. The phone comes with a 20.4 cm primary display and a 16.6 cm cover display. Both screens use E7 LTPO 8T panels with a 120Hz refresh rate and ultra-high pixel density. What’s particularly notable here is the local peak brightness of 4,500 nits on both screens, making the X Fold5 one of the brightest foldables in India. Whether you’re outdoors in direct sunlight or indoors watching HDR content, the viewing experience promises to remain excellent.

This makes the X Fold5 especially suited for 4K HDR streaming on platforms like Netflix and YouTube, which can take full advantage of the display’s high brightness, wide colour range, and contrast. The main screen resolution of 2480 × 2200 and the cover display’s 2748 × 1172 resolution promise crisp text, deep blacks, and punchy colours.

Big battery, fast charging, and strong performance

Despite its sleek and lightweight form factor, the X Fold5 packs a massive 6000mAh battery. That’s an upgrade from the previous generation’s 5700mAh unit and a major step forward for users who want their foldable to keep up with long workdays, back-to-back meetings, or evening Netflix binges without reaching for a charger.

And even when you do need to recharge, the X Fold5 doesn’t keep you waiting. It supports 80W wired fast charging as well as 40W wireless charging.

Under the hood, the vivo X Fold5 is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset, Qualcomm’s top-tier flagship chip built on the TSMC 4nm process. This results in up to 30% improved CPU performance and 25% higher power efficiency when compared to the vivo X Fold 3 Pro. The Adreno 750 GPU pushes graphics performance up by 25%, delivering smooth gaming, multitasking, and rendering.

The device also comes with an LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 4.1 storage, which results in snappy app launches, seamless multitasking, and ample headroom for heavy productivity apps or creative workflows.

The foldable that doesn’t compromise on camera quality

Camera is another area where the vivo X Fold5 promises to be a head-turner. The phone comes with a 50MP Sony IMX921 main camera with a f/1.57 aperture and vivo’s VCS 2.0 imaging tech.

Backing the primary sensor is an upgraded ZEISS telephoto camera that brings noticeable improvements over the last generation. vivo has upgraded the sensor to a Sony IMX882 sensor, which allows 33% more light intake and offers significantly better focus accuracy (32 times higher pixel density for phase detection). The telephoto camera also comes with a 3x optical zoom and up to 100x HyperZoom.

Completing the camera setup is a 50MP ultra-wide camera with autofocus and f/2.05 aperture. On the front, a 20MP camera handles selfies and video calls.

Features that make capturing moments easier

The camera setup also comes with ZEISS-backed features like Multifocal Portrait and telephoto-enhanced bokeh, both designed to give your portraits depth and a more cinematic edge. And for those who love adding a touch of artistry, the Classic Negative styleadds nostalgic contrast and grain to give photos a soft, moody vibe.

The phone’s camera also comes with vivo’s exclusive Stage Mode. It’s tailored for school performances, dance recitals, and similar on-stage events. The AI recognises stage scenes automatically, adjusts tonal balance, and reduces glare to focus on the subject, even in challenging light. You can shoot from 5 to 10 metres away, zoom up to 15x, and still get clear, high-contrast results.

There’s also Autofocus, which keeps the subject in focus even if they’re moving around. And with Dual-display Preview, the cover screen turns into a live mirror during portraits, helping your subject pose better before you take the shot.

Work smarter and faster

We have all been in situations where we wished for a device that was capable of aiding us in the middle of a super busy work day. And the vivo X Fold5 promises to be that device. The phone, equipped with an array of productivity-focused features, offers a seamless experience for professionals, students, and creators alike.

Here are some features that can help in day-to-day use:

  • Shortcut Button: This transforms the phone’s side key into a productivity gateway. Without even waking the screen, with a single press, users can perform a range of quick actions like launching frequently used apps, toggling sound profiles, creating notes, or starting voice recordings.
  • Smart Call Assistant: This feature transcribes phone calls in real-time and highlights useful information such as names, phone numbers, and addresses. This is especially handy during fast-paced conversations. It supports multiple languages, including English, Hindi, Thai, and Malay, making it perfect for cross-language communication.. Remove rest
  • AI imaging tools: For all the creative people out there, the X Fold5 packs an impressive suite of AI imaging tools that go beyond typical photo editing. AI Image Expander lets you zoom out of your photo frame to extend the background naturally, while AI Magic Move allows users to reposition subjects within an image and blend them in seamlessly. There’s also AI Reflection Erase, which eliminates glare from shots taken through glass or glossy surfaces. Meanwhile, the AI Erase 2.0 uses generative AI to let users clean up photos by removing unwanted elements. And if you’re revisiting old, low-resolution images, AI Photo Enhance brings them back to life by restoring details across the full frame, not just faces.
The entire experience is tied together with a FunTouch OS15  clean, operating system that keeps things fast, intuitive, and responsive right out of the box. Thus, the vivo X Fold5 isn’t just about delivering flagship performance, but it is also about enabling real productivity that fits into your lifestyle. Launching on 14th July, 2025
