For Indian citizens, an Aadhaar card is now one of the most important documents. It can be used to avail a number of services including opening a bank account, filing the income tax return, and beating the passport blues. Therefore, it’s of utmost importance that you have an Aadhaar card, and that too updated. While you need to visit the nearby enrollment centre to apply for a new Aadhaar card, you can update the existing one with your name, date of birth, gender, and address online. If you have already applied for a new Aadhaar card or request an update, here’s how you can check its status online:

How to check Aadhaar Card status online with enrolment number

In order to check Aadhaar card status online, you need to have the enrolment number/ ID. The Enrolment ID (or EID) is a 14-digit number that you get when you apply for an update or new Aadhaar card. It is located at the top of the acknowledgement slip, along with the date and time stamp, that you get from the enrollment centre or UIDAI website. It may look something like this: 1234/54321/12345.

Once you find your acknowledgement slip and the EID, here’s what you need to do:

Step 1: Go to https://resident.uidai.gov.in/check-aadhaar.

Step 2: Enter the EID and captcha details.

Step 3: If your Aadhaar is ready, you will get a status message on the next screen, saying “Your Aadhaar is generated”. Download or get the Aadhaar on your mobile from this screen itself.

How to check Aadhaar Card status online without enrolment number

Unfortunately, there isn’t a way to check Aadhaar status without an enrolment number. However, in case you have lost or forgotten your EID, there is a way to retrieve it online. For this, you will need your registered mobile number or email ID. Here are the steps to retrieve your lost enrolment ID/ number:

Step 1: Fire up your browser and go to UIDAI website

Step 2: Now, click on My Aadhaar, followed by Retrieve Lost or Forgotten EID/UID under Aadhaar services. Alternatively, you can click on this link

Step 3: Enter your full name, mobile number or email id, and the Captcha code on the respective fields

Step 4: Click on ‘Send OTP’

Step 5: You will be taken to another page where you can put in the OTP and click on ‘Login’.

Step 6: You will receive your EID on your mobile phone via SMS.

Step 7: Proceed to the UIDAI My Aadhaar portal and follow the steps mentioned above to check your Aadhaar status.

How to check the Aadhaar Card update status online

Although it takes around 30 days for the update request to reflect, you can check the status of the Aadhaar update request this way:

Step 1: Go to https://myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in/CheckAadhaarStatus

Step 2: Fill in the EID (Enrolment ID) that’s available on the acknowledgement slip you got when you applied for the Aadhaar update.

Step 3: You can find where your update request falls in the following stages: Draft Stage > Payment Stage > Verification Stage > Validation Stage > Completed.

How to check biometric lock or unlock status using mAadhaar app

mAadhaar app lets you secure your biometric data stored in the UIDAI/Aadhaar servers. You can check the biometric lock or unlock status through this app. Here’s how:

Step 1: Open the mAadhaar app and register your Aadhaar account on it, if you haven’t already. For this, you have to enter the Aadhaar number and the OTP you get on your registered mobile number. You’ll be asked to set a 4-digit PIN also. 

Step 2: Once you have entered the mAadhaar app, go to the Biometric Settings option and tap on the Lock/Unlock Biometrics option.

Step 3: Choosing the Lock option prevents authentication using your biometric data on the Aadhaar records. As you can guess, the Unlock option allows the biometric authentication.

Step 4: You’ll have to confirm your decision by entering the 4-digit PIN.

Steps to lock Aadhaar Card using mAadhaar app

In the case of Aadhaar locking, the UID, UID Token & VID for Biometrics, Demographic & OTP modality will be locked or prevented from being shared for authentication purposes. You can lock that through the mAadhaar app. Here’s how:

Step 1: Open mAadhaar app. Register Aadhaar in the app, if you haven’t already.

Step 2: Under the My Aadhaar tab, you will see Aadhaar Lock option.

Step 3: Tap the I agree checkbox and tap on Lock Aadhaar.

Step 1: You can check the Aadhaar Card complaint status through MyAadhaar page on the UIDAI website.

Step 2: Tap on Check Complaint Status option.

Step 3: Enter the SRN number (14 digits Service Request Number) and captcha given on the page. Tap on Submit next.
