Acer C720 and HP 14 Chromebooks launched in India; powered by Haswell processor

Just yesterday, HP had launched Chromebook 11 in association with Google. And now, after almost two years since their inception, the Chromebooks will start selling in India. The first ones to open its innings in India are Acer C720 and HP 14. As obvious from their names, these devices will be running on Chrome OS, which is very light on system resources but heavily reliant on internet connectivity.

To compensate for the limited storage, the devices will offer 100 GB Google Drive storage for a period of two years.

Acer C720 is the successor to last year’s Acer C7 model with some changes under the hood. It’s very light-weight at 1.25 kg and has a thickness of 19.05 mm. It has a LCD display of 11.6 inches bearing HD resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels. It can be said to be powered by pseudo-Haswell processor as it houses a 1.4 GHz Celeron Dual Core processor based on Haswell architecture. The C720 has a RAM of 2 GB and SSD of 16 GB. The biggest beneficiary of this processor is its battery life, which company claims can be as high as 8.5 hours.

For connectivity, it has Bluetooth 4.0, dual band Wi-Fi 802.11 /b/g/n and optional 3G support. It also has SD card slot, 1 USB 3.0 and 1 USB 2.0 port, and HDMI port at the sides. VGA webcam can be useful for video chatting purposes.

HP Chromebook 14 is a very stylish device with white color body adding to its charm. It has a weight of 1.9 kg and thickness of 20.5 mm. It sports a 14” LED display with resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels. The internals of the Chromebook 14 are almost same as of Acer C720 with a 4th Generation Celeron dual core processor. The processor is supplemented by a 4 GB of RAM. For storage, it has solid state disk of 16 GB. The 4 cell battery gives it a backup of up to 9.5 hours.

It has all the usual ports with 1 USB 2.0 and 2 USB 3.0 port as well as earphone jack, HDMI port and SD card slot. In terms of connectivity, it has Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n and optional 3G modem. HP’s TrueVision Webcam will prove to be useful during video chatting.

Pricing and Availability

Both Chromebooks will be launched on 17th October at the major retail stores as well as ecommerce websites. However, Flipkart is taking pre-orders for them starting today itself. Coming down to the price, Acer C720 is priced at Rs. 22, 999 and HP Chromebook 14 will carry a price tag of Rs. 26,990.
