Acer has debuted in the Indian smartphone market with the launch of its Acer Super ZX series. The smartphone is equipped with a 5,000mAh battery, which is standard in the sub-Rs 10,000 segment in India. It competes with the Xiaomi Redmi 14C (review), which is also priced similarly and features a 5,160mAh battery. Considering battery is a significant factor when buying budget phones, we ran synthetic benchmarks and real-life tests on these devices to determine which one has the better battery life. Read on to know which smartphone lasts longer.
Verdict
- PCMark Battery test: The PCMark battery test runs a battery of simulation tasks on the device to determine its battery backup. In this test, the Redmi 14C outlasted the Acer Super ZX but almost four hours, which is a significant difference in terms of battery backup.
- YouTube video streaming (30 minutes): With cheaper internet and ad-free plans come hours of online video streaming, which drains battery life. To determine the streaming battery efficiency, we played a full HD YouTube video on both devices for 30 minutes with brightness and volume at 50 percent. Both smartphones lost exactly 3 percent of battery in our testing.
- Gaming: We played titles like COD: Mobile, BGMI, and Real Racing 3 on both devices for 30 minutes each with identical graphic settings. After the 90-minute gaming session, we analysed the battery drop on each device. Here, the Acer Super ZX lost 5 percent less battery at the end of the intensive gaming session.
- Charging test: To find out which device spends less time plugged in, we drained their 20 percent battery level and charged them fully. Both devices took over an hour to charge completely. However, the Acer Super ZX charged around 15 minutes faster than the Redmi 14C.
Device | Charging time from 20-100 percent |
Acer Super ZX | 67 minutes |
Xiaomi Redmi 14C | 84 minutes |
With nearly identical battery capacities, the Acer Super ZX and Xiaomi Redmi 14c perform almost identically. The Redmi 14C lasts longer on the PCMark battery test due to the better efficiency of the processor. However, the Acer Super ZX makes up for it in the streaming and gaming tests with similar performance and faster charging.
If you are looking for an entry-level smartphone that will last you slightly longer than the Redmi 14C, for Rs 9,999, it is the pick. On the other hand, if it’s a faster charging smartphone with good streaming and gaming efficiency that you want, the Acer Super ZX at Rs 9,990 is worth considering.
