Oura Ring has been in the market for close to a decade, but it is now getting serious competition from the likes of Samsung, Ultrahuman, etc. Even Apple could throw its hat in the ring sometime in the not-so-distant future. So, Oura seems to stepping up the game with a new ring. 91mobiles has spotted an Oura Ring with a seemingly adjustable size on the US Patent database. Here, check it out!
Adjustable Oura Ring patent
As per the diagrams on the US Patent filing, this new Oura Ring design seems to have a combination of one flexible part and a rigid part. The former part could let Oura adjust the size of the Ring to match the user’s fit. Per the patent, the inner radius of the flexible portion could range between 9mm and 13mm.
Although this is just conjecture, we figure such a design could endow a comfortable fit to any finger size while minimizing the need for manufacturing multiple ring sizes.
In the patent file, Oura mentions producing multiple ring sizes is costly not just in terms of making and associated R&D, but also storing and the capital tied up in inventory.
Besides the above point, the ring’s design could be more compact.
The patent suggests connectivity options like 5G, 4G, Wi-Fi, cellular, Bluetooth, ultrawideband (UWB), NFC, Zigbee, radio frequency, etc.
It could also be useful for authenticating FIDO 2-based password-less logins into various platforms.
This upcoming Oura Ring will bring sensors for tracking heartbeat, blood oxygen, blood vessels, EKG/ECG, etc.
Among other things, the Oura Ring could also feature a barometer or GPS-based elevation tracking, accelerometer, gyroscope, magnetometer, and pressure sensors.
That’s largely what we have managed to extract from the patent file. But, we suggest you take these details with a pinch of salt until Oura announces the device or we have more concrete information about it.
