“The Alcatel 5,3 and 1 series smartphones all feature 18:9 displays”
As major brands gear up to showcase their smartphones at MWC 2018, Alcatel has already gone ahead and launched a new 18:9 smartphone portfolio with its 5,3 and 1 series. The range includes Alcatel 5, Alcatel 3, Alcatel 3X, Alcatel 3V, Alcatel 1X and Alcatel 1C. All the devices come with the brand’s SIGMANIC design language, Face Key facial recognition and Social Mode for the camera. The brand also announced the first Android Oreo (Go Edition) device in the form of the Alcatel 1X.
To start with, the Alcatel 5 is the flagship device in the bunch and comes with an 18:9 5.7-inch display with HD+ resolution. The performance of the handset is handled by a MediaTek MT6750 octa-core processor. As for the RAM, it is being offered in two variants – 2GB RAM + 16GB storage and 3GB RAM + 32GB storage. In terms of imaging, the handset gets a dual camera module in the front with a 13MP f/2.0 sensor and a 5MP sensor with a 120-degree wide-angle lens. The front camera is also accompanied by a dedicated LED flash. Coming to the rear camera, there is a 12-megapixel snapper with an f/2.2 aperture and 1.25μm sensor size with dual tone LED flash.
The all-metal handset boots Android Nougat and is powered by a 3,000mAh battery. There is a a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner for security, to open pre-programmed apps and to capture images.
Moving on to the 3 series, it comprises of the Alcatel 3V, Alcatel 3X, Alcatel 3 and Alcatel 3C. The Alcatel 3V is the largest of the trio, with a 6-inch 18:9 display with Quad HD+ resolution and fully laminated 2.5D curved glass. The device is powered by a 1.4GHz MediaTek MT8735A processor mated to 2GB RAM and 16GB storage, with support for microSD cards up to 128GB. In the imagery department, the rear camera module comprises of 12-megapixel + 2-megapixel sensors and the selfie shooter is a 5-megapixel unit. The handset runs Android Oreo out of the box and is powered by a 3,000mAh battery.
The Alcatel 3 ships with a 5.5-inch HD+ 18:0 display with fully laminated 2.5D glass. At its core is a quad-core 1.28GHz MediaTek MT6739 processor mated to 2GB RAM and 16GB expandable storage. The dual rear camera module comprises of a 13-megapixel + 5-megapixel setup and on the front is a 5-megapixel unit. Out of the box, the device runs Android Oreo and is fuelled by a 3,000mAh battery. There is a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner as well. Moving on to the Alcatel 3X, the handset shares all its specs and features with the Alcatel 3 except for a 5.7-inch display, 3GB RAM, 32GB storage and Android Nougat.
Lastly, the Alcatel 1C is a beefed up variant of the Alcatel 1X launched at the same event. The handset ships with a 6-inch 18:9 display with Quad HD+ resolution and 2.5D full laminated glass. The device is powered by a 1.45GHz quad-core processor mated to 2GB RAM and 16GB storage, which can be expanded up to 128GB. The rear panel is home to a 12-megapixel + 2-Megapixel dual camera module and the front panel houses a 5-megapixel selfie shooter. The handset boots Android Oreo and is fuelled by a 3,000mAh battery.
As for the pricing and availability, the Alcatel 5 is already available in select markets in Metallic Black and Metallic Gold hues with a price tag of €229.99 (~Rs 18,500). The Alcatel 3V comes in Spectrum Black, Spectrum Blue and Spectrum Gold for €189,99 (~Rs 15,000). The Alcatel 3X will go on sale starting in March and will cost €179.99 (~Rs 14,500). The 3X will be offered in Metallic Black, Metallic Blue, Metallic Gold, Spectrum Black, Spectrum Blue, and Spectrum Gold. The Alcatel 3 will also go on sale starting in March and will set you back by €149.99 (~Rs 12,000). It will be offered in three hues – Spectrum Black, Spectrum Blue, and Spectrum Gold. Pricing and availability details of the Alcatel 1C are not known at the moment.
