“The OTA update will be rolled out to the users in a phased manner over the next couple of weeks”
Finally, the long wait is over as Google’s latest mobile operating system, Android 7.0 Nougat (review), has started rolling out to select devices after a bunch of developer previews earlier this year. The devices in tow for the update include the Nexus 6 (first impressions), Nexus 5X (review), Nexus 6P (review), Nexus 9, Nexus Player, Pixel C tablet and General Mobile 4G.
On the outside, the consumer version of Nougat isn’t very different from the latest Developer preview, albeit more stable than the latter. Coming from Android Marshmallow, the new OS brings a slew of visual tweaks as well as new features like multi-window support, better battery management and a bunch of new emojis. For a complete list of new features, you can check here. If you’re an owner of any of the aforementioned devices, then you can expect an OTA update with Android Nougat starting today.
But in case you can’t wait to get your hands on to the new OS, you can jump the queue by signing up for the beta program here. Until last year, the launch of a new Android version was almost certainly accompanied by new Nexus devices. However this time, Google has revealed that LG’s upcoming smartphone, the V20, would be the first to run Android 7.0 out-of-the-box.
