Apple AirPods have been a huge success, spawning a whole new multi-billion-dollar industry by themselves. Currently in their 2nd generation, the non-Pro AirPods were launched in 2019 and are due for an upgrade. The company is expected to announce the 3rd generation AirPods in the coming months, and now we’ve got some fresh info on them. According to a new report by 52Audio, the upcoming AirPods 3 may feature Active Noise Cancellation technology that was seen in AirPods Pro. Previous leaks and rumours have suggested that the new wireless earbuds will get a new design that will resemble the AirPods Pro. It will reportedly get a smaller stem, and ear tips that can be replaced.
Apple AirPods 3 features
The latest report suggests that the upcoming 3rd generation Apple AirPods will get a feature that’s currently only available in the more expensive Pro version. It is possible that Apple may include a basic ANC feature on the AirPods 3, or unveil a new feature on the Pro variant to differentiate between the two earbuds. The new AirPods are also going to use a design that’s similar to the Pro version, which includes a smaller stem and relocated sensors/pressure port. It will also reportedly have a semi in-ear design with removable ear tips. The stem on the new AirPods 3 will retain pressure touch inputs, but will be longer than that of the AirPods Pro. The new design will be a mash-up of the AirPods 2 and the AirPods Pro.
The charging case of AirPods 3 is also said to be similar to that of the Pro variant, but smaller in size. It will get a charging indictor on the front and support wireless charging. The report also states that the sound quality of the new AirPods won’t see a lot of improvement. However, due to the semi in-ear design, users will be able to enjoy Active Noise Cancellation technology.
As mentioned in the beginning, Apple is expected to launch the new AirPods lineup sometime in Q1 2021.
