“The Apple AirPower was first showcased back in 2017, and its launch has been due since then”
During its iPhone X and iPhone 8 smartphones launch in 2017, Apple gave a preview of a wireless charging mat called the AirPower. Since then it has become a much-awaited device from Apple, postponed for some unknown reason. Now, a report by MacRumours (via a tweet from ChargerLAB) claims that the AirPower is back in production, and hence, its launch can be expected soon. The informant is said to be a “credible source” placed within Apple’s supply chain.
Breaking: AirPower is finally coming. We just learned from credible source in supply chain that the manufacture Luxshare Precision has already started producing Apple AirPower wireless charging pad. Luxshare Precision is also the maker of Apple AirPods and USB-C cables. pic.twitter.com/UqgWIAh3sx— ChargerLAB (@chargerlab) January 12, 2019
The report falls in line with early speculations by TF International analyst Ming-Chi Kuo that says the Cupertino-based tech giant could launch the long coming AirPower wireless charging in early 2019. However, we’d still advise you to take it with a grain of salt as there hasn’t been any official confirmation yet.
The AirPower was first expected to be released in March 2018, but that didn’t happen, and Apple hasn’t said anything about the accessory in any of its event throughout the year. In June 2018, there were rumours that the device is facing technical troubles (overheating, to be exact) due to the complexity of charging three devices simultaneously. As shown by Apple in its September 2017 keynote, AirPower can charge an iPhone, AirPods, and Apple Watch all at the same time. The price and availability of the wireless charging mat are as much of a mystery as its launch.
The AirPower hearting problem has now reportedly been resolved. That means, we can hear more about the device in the coming days, so stay tuned to 91mobiles.
