Apple has been falling short of Samsung and Apple when it comes to unique designs like foldables and innovative software features like Generative AI, which take the total experience of the Pixel 8 series and Samsung Galaxy S24 series to a new level. However, that might change soon as Apple’s CEO, Tim Cook confirmed the company is working on generative AI software features.
Apple confirms generative AI features
- During Apple’s quarterly earnings call on Thursday, Tim Cook mentioned that the brand is working on generative AI software features.
- These features will make their way to customers ‘later this year’.
- This news will fall in line with Mark Gurman’s report which said that iOS 18 could be the ‘biggest’ update in iOS history.
- Noted analyst Min-Chi Kuo predicted that Apple sales could see a decline and one of the reasons for this could be the lack of any innovation be it foldable designs or innovative software features.
- This confirmation from the Apple CEO might turn the tables in the second half of the year.
- Tim Cook mentioned generative AI several times during the earnings call but never mentioned anything specific. However, this works as a confirmation that we’re in for a big update.
“As we look ahead, we will continue to invest in these and other technologies that will shape the future. That includes artificial intelligence, where we continue to spend a tremendous amount of time and effort, and we’re excited to share the details of our ongoing work in that space later this year,” Tim Cook said.
Analysts tried to get more details out of Cook but the CEO was smart enough to not reveal much. “Our M.O., if you will, has always been to do work and then talk about work, and not to get out in front of ourselves. And so we’re going to hold that to this as well. But we have got some things that we’re incredibly excited about, that we’ll be talking about later this year.“
AI software features ranging from word processing enhancements to photo manipulation have been a major selling point for smartphones from Samsung and Google in recent months. With Cook teasing about the AI features, we believe AI features will be integrated into iOS, iPadOS, and MacOS platforms later this year.
While concluding the call, Tim Cook affirmed that there is a huge opportunity for Apple with generative AI.
