If history is anything to go by, Apple’s artwork is not just random and often does hint at something, but nothing significant or anything. For instance, last year’s tagline ‘California Streaming’ was speculated to do something about the portrait mode for videos and graphite and gold colour options, but this did materialise.

iPhone 14 launch event invite: a teaser?

Apple ‘Far Out’ teaser image could be hinting at a couple of new features such as the possible ‘always-on display’, ‘astrophotography’, satellite connectivity, and possibly a new colour option for the Pro models. Here are our speculations:

Always on display: The first and foremost hint looking at the invite image is the existence of ‘always on display’ functionality. This could be limited to the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max and will only light up some parts of the OLED panel to show notifications, time, date, battery and possibly animation all while the phone is locked. This is what the dark sky and stars could be hinting at.

iPhone 14 Pro

Astrophotography: Android OEMs including the likes of Google, Realme, Vivo, and Xiaomi offer Astro photography on their flagship and premium phones. This mode lets you take images of the night sky by automatically taking multiple-exposure photos and combining them together to remove noise. While it was rumoured the iPhone 13 series could bring this feature for some reason that didn’t happen. The tagline ‘Far Out’, coupled with the galaxy imagery, could be hinting at this feature.

Satellite connectivity: iPhone 13 series from last year was rumoured to offer satellite connectivity but that didn’t happen. Now, the iPhone 14 series is expected to come with this feature. It will let you send messages over satellite networks when using cellular coverage is not available. Considering satellites float in space, the cosmic theme might be a confirmation of this feature.

iPhone 14

The iPhone 14 series is expected to come with a new, bigger 48MP sensor, which could be better equipped for low-light situations.

New colour: Lastly, we believe the iPhone 14 series might get a new space grey colour option and the addition of space imagery in the invite could be an indication of it.
