“The iPhone 8 duo brings a faster SoC and wireless charging”
Apple CEO Tim Cook just took covers of the much-awaited 10th anniversary iPhone X at the brand’s newly built headquarters. At the event, Cook took the stage to unveil the Apple iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus as well. While the iPhone X flaunts a whole new design and a slew of new features, the iPhone 8 duo is just incremental an upgrade to last year’s iPhones.
The iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus both offer the same front design with a Touch ID fingerprint sensor found on their predecessors. However, at the rear, they have a glass back panel, unlike an all metal unibody design on the iPhone 7 duo. The new iPhones are among the first in the series to offer wireless charging, thanks to the glass back panels. They also sport dust and water resistance rating. The stereo speakers on the new iPhones are 25 percent more louder than the iPhone 7, and offer deeper bass.
Coming to the other upgrades, the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus are powered by Apple’s fastest mobile chipset till date, the A11 Bionic, just like the iPhone X. The SoC packs in a six-core processor – two high performance cores that are 25 percent faster than the A10 and four cores 70 percent faster than the old model. This processor offers better support for augmented reality, and delivers improved performance and battery life as compared to the A10 Fusion. The brand has also equipped the iPhone 8 duo with its newly designed GPU that’s 25 percent faster.
As for the other specs, the Apple iPhone 8 offers a 4.7-inch True Tone display. The camera department includes a 12-megapixel rear snapper with optical image stabilisation, phase detection autofocus, 4K recording at 60fps and a quad-LED dual-tone flash. The phone comes in two storage models – 64GB and 256GB.
The Apple iPhone 8 Plus is fitted with a 5.5-inch True Tone display. Just like the iPhone 7 Plus, the phone comes with a dual camera setup at the rear. There are dual 12-megapixel snappers at the back – the primary sensor with f/1.8 aperture and OIS, and the secondary sensor offering an aperture of f/2.8. The phone offers phase detection autofocus, 2x optical zoom, a quad-LED dual-tone flash and 2,160p recording at 30fps. Its selfie camera remains the same as its smaller sibling.
In terms of connectivity, the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus both offer Bluetooth 5.0 and LTE Advanced. They will get the iOS 11 update starting September 19th. They will be available in Silver, Space Grey and Gold Hues.
As for the pricing, the iPhone 8 will be available at the starting price of Rs 64,000 for the 64GB variant and Rs 77,000 for the 256GB option. The iPhone 8 Plus will cost Rs 73,000 and Rs 86,000 for the 64GB and 256GB versions respectively. They will be available in India starting September 29th.
