Now you can get your iPhone 6 or higher models battery replaced by paying Rs 2,000
Yesterday, Apple posted a letter apologising to its customers for slowing down older iPhone models due to ageing batteries. In the US, the company also announced it would offer battery replacements for the older iPhones at a discounted price. Soon after, the Cupertino tech giant has reduced the battery replacement costs of older iPhones in India as well.
91mobiles has learned from the company’s spokesperson that users can replace their iPhone battery in India by paying Rs 2,000 (plus taxes). The discounted battery replacement is applicable for the iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus, iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus. Earlier, the battery replacement cost for the older iPhone was Rs 6,500, and the new price will save you nearly Rs 4,500. You can get your old iPhones battery replaced by the brand’s third-party service partners across the country.
The issue was initially brought to light when an iPhone 6s user on Reddit found out that the latest iOS 11.2 update slowed down his device. However, after he replaced the battery of the phone, its performance returned to original. The user tested this using the benchmarking app Geekbench. The test revealed that Apple was deliberately slowing down the older iPhones via software updates.
After the customer outrage, Apple officially confirmed that it was slowing down the performance of older iPhones. The brand said that it slowed the performance to ensure better a user experience with older batteries. Although the company’s explanation made sense at some level, older iPhone users criticised the brands decision.
After the announcement, a number of court cases were filed against the brand, accusing it of hiding information for customers. The company also said that it will be releasing a new software update to the iPhones, which will give users more information about the battery on their device.
