“Apple has announced 3 new iPhones and the Apple Watch Series 4 at today’s event”
All speculations have finally been put to rest. The Cupertino-based tech giant Apple has finally unveiled its latest iPhones and Apple Watch Series 4 at its ‘Gather Round’ event today. While some of the speculations and leaks were spot on, some missed the mark. After a ton of speculations, rumours and leaks, the Apple iPhone trio is finally here. Apple has launched the regular variants as iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max. The former comes with a 5.8-inch display, whereas the latter is equipped with a massive 6.5-inch panel, both Super Retina OLED. There are being offered in same glass-sandwich design and come with an IP68 rating. The smartphones come powered by the latest Apple A12 Bionic processor, which is the first 7nm chipset from the company. Apple is offering these phones in three configurations – 64GB, 256GB and 512GB.
On the imaging front, the smartphones flaunt dual camera setups on the back with a pair of 12MP shooters in wide-angle + telephoto setup. There is a 7MP camera on the front for selfies accompanied by IR camera and Dot Projector for Face ID. The smartphones boot iOS 12 and come with dual-SIM functionality with one of them being an eSIM.
Apple has also announced the more affordable iPhone Xr with 6.1-inch LCD display, which Apple claims to be the most advanced LCD panel in a smartphone. There is a single 12MP wide-angle lens on the back with improved True Tone LED flash. The smartphone is being offered in 64GB, 128GB and 256GB storage options. Apple is offering the affordable model in six new colours – white, black, blue, yellow, coral and (PRODUCT) RED. It retains the rest of the spec sheet of iPhone XS and XS Max.
The brand also announced the fourth-generation Apple Watch at the event. The latest smartwatch has been launched in two case sizes, viz 40mm and 44mm, with nearly bezel-less, edge-to-edge displays. Apple claims that the displays on the new watches are 30 percent larger from last year and feature re-designed watch faces with up to eight complications. There is also a new simple analog watch face with the option of animated water, fire and vapour graphics. The new complications let users keep track of fitness, live sports scores and boarding info at airports, among other stuff.
Driving the performance of the device is a 64-bit dual core processor S4 processor, which is two times faster than last year. Other features of the smartwatch include a re-designed digital crown with haptic feedback, a 50 percent louder speaker, repositioned mic for reducing echo, black ceramic and sapphire back, and optical and electrical heart rate sensor which can take ECG readings. The watch is being offered in Silver, Gold and Space Grey finish with an option for selecting any band from first generation Apple Watch to the latest.
There were talks of Apple launching other products at the event, but the brand stuck to Apple Watch and iPhones for this event. The iPhone XS and XS Max are slated to go on sale in India starting September 28th with a starting price of Rs 99,900. On the other hand, the iPhone XR will be available exactly a month later with prices starting from Rs 76,900. The Apple Watch, on the other hand, will be available in the US and other counties from September 21st and start at $399, but the Indian pricing and availability isn’t known yet.
