Apple has started the locally assembling the iPhone SE 2020 in India. The Cupertino-based tech giant launched the affordable iPhone in India back in April and was being imported so far. Now, Apple manufacturing partner Wistron has begun assembling the iPhone SE 2020 in its Karnataka factory. With the iPhone SE 2020 (Review) being made in India now, Apple will be able to avoid the 20 percent import duty that it was paying for importing the model.
Apart from the iPhone SE (2020), Apple is also manufacturing five more iPhone models in India, including last year’s iPhone 11. “iPhone SE 2020 Rs 16,999 packs our most powerful chip into our most popular size at our most affordable price and we’re excited to be making it in India for our local customers,” Apple told Gadgets360 in an email interaction.
Notably, the iPhone SE 2020 is now being sold at a discounted price on Flipkart. Originally launched at Rs 42,500 for the 64GB variant, the iPhone SE 2020 is now available for Rs 35,999. The 128GB and 256GB storage options are also available at a discounted price on Flipkart.
It was recently reported that Apple will locally manufacture the upcoming iPhone 12 model in mid-2021. The iPhone 12 series is expected to launch in October and is rumoured to include four models. All four models are said to come with 5G support and OLED displays. Moreover, there are reports that 4G-only iPhone 12 models will release in early 2021. These models may launch in India at more affordable prices.
