Apple is expected to launch a new version of its MacBook Air with updated internals soon. Earlier reports suggested that the company could launch the new M4-powered MacBook Air in spring between March and April. However, a new report suggests that the launch could happen sooner than later.

New MacBook Air launch is imminent

  • According to a report MacRumours, a mysterious private account on X (formerly Twitter) has shared identifiers that Apple’s upcoming MacBook Air will use.
  • These identifiers indicate that the company will update both its 13-inch and 15-inch MacBook Air models and that they will be powered by the company’s ‘T8132’ chip.
  • The T8132 identifier belongs to Apple’s M4 chip. It is already available in Apple’s MacBook Pro and iPad Pro models. This indicates that the upcoming 13-inch and 15-inch MacBook Air models will be powered the Apple Silicon M4.
  • It is worth noting that this report comes shortly after Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman pointed out that stock of MacBook Air is running low in retail stores. This indicates that the company is planning to refresh the stock with newer devices soon.
  • Interestingly, Apple also accidentally shared files related to the unreleased MacBook Air models with macOS 15.2 update in December last year, an older report by the publication suggests.
  • These files pertained to unreleased “Mac16,12” and “Mac16,13” and references to the M4 variants of the 13-inch and 15-inch MacBook Air models.
  • All these reports suggest that the launch of M4-powered MacBook Air is imminent now.

What we know about M4 MacBook Air?

  • As per reports, Apple isn’t expected to make any major changes to its MacBook Air models design wise. This means the M4 MacBook Air models will look almost similar to the M3 MacBook Air.
  • The upcoming MacBook Air models are expected to offer upgrades in terms of performance compared to the M3 models. It will also be tweaked to support Apple Intelligence features.
  • A report by TechRadar suggests that Apple could increase the memory bandwidth that will enable users to connect two external displays without turning down the lid of the laptop.
