This is smart planning considering iPad and iPhones have common components, including both core and peripheral chips. For this reason, Apple is shifting supplies between different devices considering the current situation that requires a longer waiting time for iPhone 13 models and it could meet the demand. Apparently, the demand for iPhones has increased over iPad in many regions since the COVID-19 pandemic started. Apple believes the demand could only improve further in the coming months and even the holiday season is around the corner. However, this doesn’t totally mean that iPads are out of demand, even those are need of the hour considering the rise of remote work and online classes during the pandemic.

This isn’t the first time that Apple is prioritising iPhones over iPads. The company reallocated some iPad parts to the iPhone 12 lineup production last year as well. But this time, iPad buyers will also have to wait for a long time to get their hands on the tablet. According to some reports, customers in the US and Europe who ordered an iPad with 256GB storage around October end will have to wait until December 15th to get their hands on the iPad. The situation is similar in China as well, where consumers have to wait for six weeks to get the new iPad.
