
Apple’s iPhone 15 has become the world’s best-selling smartphone in the year 2024. The company also dominated the list of smartphone makers with the highest sales in 2024 with as many as seven iPhone models joining the top 10 list. Apple was followed by Samsung at a close second spot.
World’s best-selling smartphones in 2024
- According to a report by Canalys, the iPhone 15 became the highest selling smartphone in 2024, making up for almost three percent of Apple’s global sales last year.
- As per a separate report by Counterpoint, the iPhone 15 became the top selling smartphone globally primarily due to its sales in the US and China. The report says the sales in the US and China accounted for nearly half of the global sales for the device.
- The iPhone 15 starts at Rs 69,900 in India.

- Besides the iPhone 15, Apple also saw its Pro-series iPhone models making it to the list of top three best selling smartphones in the world.
- While the Canalys report suggest that the iPhone 16 Pro Max and the iPhone 15 Pro Max were the second and third best selling smartphones last year, the data shared by Counterpoint indicates that the iPhone 15 Pro Max and the iPhone 15 Pro took the second and third spots.
- Overall, Apple dominated the top 10 list with a total of seven iPhone models. The list includes the iPhone 15, the iPhone 16 Pro Max, the iPhone 15 Pro Max, the iPhone 16 Pro, the iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 16 and the iPhone 13.
- Apple captured 18 percent of the market share shipping around 225.9 million units of iPhones worldwide last year. It was closely followed by Samsung, which shipped 222.9 million units of its Galaxy smartphones worldwide last year.

- Samsung saw three of its Galaxy smartphones making it to the top 10 list with the Samsung Galaxy A15 being its best selling smartphone globally. The phone starts at Rs 17,999 in India.
- Besides the Galaxy A15, Samsung also saw the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra joining the top 10 list.
Global smartphone sales
- Beyond Apple and Samsung, Xiaomi took the third spot in the list of top five phone makers in the world. It captured around 14 percent of the market share and shipped 168.6 million phone units globally.
- It was followed by TRANSSION and OPPO on the fourth and fifth spots with a sales of 106.7 million and 103.6 million smartphone units globally.
