At last year’s Computex, ASUS joined the club of gaming-centric smartphone manufacturers with the launch of the ROG Phone (review). The handset arrived with top-notch specifications like as well as a handful of gaming accessories. Now the company is all set to launch the successor in the form of the ASUS ROG Phone 2. The phone maker recently announced that its next-gen gaming offering will be released in July. Now, the brand has revealed one key feature of the upcoming ROG Phone 2.
On its official handle on Chinese social networking website Weibo, ASUS has announced that the ROG Phone 2 will flaunt a display with a whopping 120Hz refresh rate. It will be an impressive improvement over the ROG Phone, which boasts of a 90Hz screen. The company has also revealed that it has partnered with the Chinese fighting game “Under the One Man” for the ROG Phone 2. Furthermore, the phone maker promised that more future games will be optimised for the 120Hz experience. Notably, the ASUS ROG Phone 2 will be the third smartphone to flaunt a 120Hz display, after the Razer Phone and Razer Phone 2.
ASUS hasn’t revealed any other specifications of the ROG Phone 2 at the moment. However, we can speculate that the phone will flaunt a robust heat dissipation system and an improved design. The handset is expected to utilise Qualcomm’s top-of-the-line flagship Snapdragon 855 processor. One of the variants of the device could offer 12GB of RAM and a whopping 1TB of native storage. The smartphone will likely come with a handful of optional gaming accessories, just like its predecessor.
As for the ASUS ROG Phone, the handset comes with an optional TwinView Dock accessory. This has a front-firing quad-speaker system, two physical trigger keys, an enhanced cooling system, a dual-haptic force-feedback engine, and a massive 6,000mAh extended battery pack. Notably, there’s another optional accessory called the Mobile Desktop Dock, which lets you connect the handset to a 4K UHD display, mouse and keyboard. Talking about the other highlights, the ROG Phone boasts a Snapdragon 845 SoC, 8GB of RAM, up to 512GB of storage, and support for up to 1.2Gbps Cat 18 LTE download speeds.
