ASUS ROG Phone 2 goes official as world’s first phone with Snapdragon 855 Plus SoC

“The ROG Phone 2 is also the world’s first phone to offer dual vibration motors for improved haptic feedback while gaming”

ASUS ROG Phone 2 (first impressions) smartphone has been launched in China by the Taiwanese brand as the successor to last year’s ROG Phone. It is the latest gaming-centric smartphone from ASUS and the first handset in the world to utilise Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 855 Plus flagship processor. Similar to its predecessor, the ASUS ROG Phone 2 also comes with several optional accessories like a cooling fan, controller pad, dual-screen accessory, Nintendo Switch Joy-Con like controllers, and a Switch-like docking station, which lets you connect the handset to your TV set. In the time we have spent with the ASUS ROG Phone 2 we found the display to be ultra-smooth thanks to the 240Hz refresh rate and didn’t feel the device is too bulky despite the 240 grams weight.

ASUS ROG Phone 2 specifications

As far as the specs are concerned, the ASUS ROG Phone 2 sports a 6.59-inch AMOLED display with full HD+ resolution and a screen refresh rate of 120Hz. The smartphone has a response time of 1ms and also offers 240Hz touch sampling that reduces the lag while performing extensively. The Snapdragon 855 Plus processor onboard offers a clock speed of up to 2.96GHz. The handset comes in two RAM and storage configurations – 8GB + 128GB and 12GB + 512GB.

In the imaging department, the ASUS ROG Phone 2 has been fitted with a 48-megapixel primary snapper, aided by a 13-megapixel shooter at the rear. For selfies and video calling, you get a 24-megapixel snapper. The connectivity features include 4G LTE, dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.0, and two USB Type-C ports. Software-wise, the handset boots Android 9 Pie with ZenUI on top, but you will also be able to switch to stock Android. A monstrous 6,000mAh battery with 30W fast charging support completes the list of the specs. Notably, the latest ROG handset is also the world’s first to utilise dual vibration motors.
