At the Zenvolution event at Computex, ASUS has unveiled the third generation of ZenFone series of smartphones. The new ZenFone range includes three smartphones – the ZenFone 3, ZenFone 3 Deluxe and ZenFone 3 Ultra. The company is touting the ZenFone 3 Deluxe and Ultra as the world’s first full-metal smartphones with invisible antenna lines. The vendor also claims that the ZenFone 3 Ultra is the world’s first phone to offer ASUS-exclusive Tru2Life+ Video technology and virtual 7.1-channel surround sound with DTS Headphone: X. All three new ZenFones run Android Marshmallow with ZenUI 3.0 on top.
The ASUS ZenFone 3 sports a durable metal frame, and boasts a layer of 2.5D Corning Gorilla Glass at both the front and rear of the device. The phone sports a 5.5-inch full HD Super IPS+ display with 77.3 percent screen-to-body ratio. It’s powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor clocked at 2.0GHz, aided by up to 4GB of RAM. For imaging, it gets a 16-meg primary snapper with a dual-LED real tone flash, and ASUS TriTech autofocus, which automatically selects laser, phase detection and continuous autofocus to achieve fast focus in just 0.03 seconds. Connectivity-wise, the 4G-enabled phone offers X9 LTE modem, a USB Type-C port and Wi-Fi 802.11ac MU-MIMO. It comes with up to 64GB of internal memory, a 3,000mAh battery, and an 8MP selfie snapper. The phone comes in Gold, Blue, Black or White colours. There’s also a ZenFone 3 Expression series model, which is available in Aqua, Glaze and Nebula.
The ASUS ZenFone 3 Deluxe is the flagship offering and is built around a 5.7-inch full HD Super AMOLED display. The phone is equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor, mated to a meaty 6GB of RAM and an Adreno 530 GPU. It boasts a 23MP Sony IMX318 camera with f/2.0 aperture, a dual-LED real tone flash and ASUS’ PixelMaster 3.0 technology. For steady 4K video recording, it features 4-axis optical image stabilisation and 3-axis electronic image stabilisation. The phone also flaunts ASUS’ Tri-Tech autofocus system with laser, phase detection and continuous autofocus for accurately and quickly locking the focus on the subject. The device sports a five-magnet speaker with NXP smart amplifier and Hi-Res audio, a USB Type-C port, and supports Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 3.0 technology. It comes with 4G LTE, a 3,000mAh battery, an 8MP selfie snapper, up to 256GB of storage, and can be purchased in Grey, Silver or Gold hues.
The ASUS ZenFone 3 Ultra on the other hand, is the largest smartphone offering from the company, featuring a 6.8-inch full HD display. The phone sports Tru2Life+ Video technology, which as per the brand, harnesses a high-end 4K UHD TV-grade image processor to optimise every pixel in each frame before it is displayed to offer superior contrast and clarity. The phablet is fuelled by an octa-core 1.8GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 652 processor, coupled with an Adreno 510 GPU and up to 4GB of RAM. The ZenFone 3 Ultra shares its camera hardware with its sibling, the ZenFone 3 Deluxe. It is fuelled by a 4,600mAh battery, which supports Quick Charge 3.0 tech and also works as a power bank for other devices. The device sports an 8MP front shooter, and comes in Grey, Silver or Pink colours.
The ASUS ZenFone 3, ZenFone 3 Deluxe and ZenFone 3 Ultra also get fingerprint sensors for enhanced security. While the ZenFone 3 and ZenFone 3 Deluxe have fingerprint scanners located below the rear camera, the Ultra’s sensor is integrated into the home button. The ZenFone 3 will be available at the starting price of $249 (around Rs 16,750) for the 3GB RAM / 32GB storage model. The ZenFone 3 Deluxe’s starting price is $499 (approx. Rs 33,600) for 6GB RAM / 64GB edition, while the ZenFone 3 Ultra will be available at the starting price of $479, around Rs 33,250.
