ASUS has launched the ZenFone 3 smartphone range in India at its Z3nvolution event in New Delhi today. The new ZenFone range comprises of four devices, dubbed the ZenFone 3, ZenFone 3 LaserZenFone 3 Deluxe, and the ZenFone 3 Ultra. While the ZenFone 3, ZenFone 3 Deluxe and ZenFone Ultra were unveiled at the Computex 2016 in May, the ZenFone 3 Laser was released recently in Vietnam. The smartphones feature fingerprint sensors and Android 6.0 Marshmallow with ZenUI 3.0 on top.

The mainstay of the new lineup, the ASUS ZenFone 3 (first impressions) sports a metal frame, and a layer of 2.5D Corning Gorilla Glass at both the front and rear. The phone features a 5.5-inch full HD display Super IPS+ display. Performance is handled by a 2.0GHz octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 processor, mated to 4GB of RAM. For imaging, it gets a 16-megapixel rear snapper with a dual-LED real tone flash, and the brand’s TriTech autofocus technology, which claims to offer fast focussing in just 0.03 seconds by automatically selecting laser, phase detection and continuous autofocus. The handset offers an 8-megapixel snapper on the front for selfies and video calling. The connectivity features include 4G LTE, a USB Type-C port, Wi-Fi 802.11ac MU-MIMO, Bluetooth 4.2 and A-GPS. A 3,000mAh battery keeps the phone running.

ASUS has also launched a lower-specced variant of the ZenFone 3, which comes with a smaller 5.2-inch full HD display, 3GB of RAM, 32GB of internal memory, and a 2,600mAh battery.

The ASUS ZenFone 3 Laser is the most affordable of the lot and flaunts a slim metal frame measuring 7.9mm. It sports a 5.5-inch full HD display and is powered by an octa-core Snapdragon 430 chipset. For memory, it has 4GB RAM and 32GB of storage on board. As its name suggests, the smartphone’s USP is its laser-autofocussing capabilities that complement the 13-meg rear snapper with an aperture of f/2.0. Its other specifications are similar to the ZenFone 3.

ASUS ZenFone 3 Deluxe

The ZenFone 3 Deluxe (first impressions) gets a 5.7-inch full HD Super AMOLED display, and is backed by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 SoC, aided by Adreno 530 graphics and a meaty 4 gigs of RAM. It also comes in a more powerful variant that’s the world’s first smartphone to be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 821 chipset, which is supplemented by beefy 6GB of RAM. The device features a 23-meg Sony IMX318 camera on the back with f/2.0 aperture, a dual-LED real tone flash, ASUS PixelMaster 3.0 technology, 4K recording, 4-axis optical image stabilisation, and 3-axis electronic image stabilisation. It also gets the brand’s TriTech autofocus system to quickly lock the focus on the subject. For selfies, it sports an 8-megapixel snapper on the front. The phone comes up to 256GB of internal memory. The fuel is provided by a 3,000mAh battery, which supports Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 3.0 technology. It also offers a five-magnet speaker with NXP smart amplifier and Hi-Res audio for immersive media experience.

The ASUS ZenFone 3 Ultra and ZenFone 3 Deluxe are being touted as the world’s first full-metal smartphones with invisible antenna lines. ASUS also claims that the ZenFone 3 Ultra is the world’s first phone to sport ASUS-exclusive Tru2Life+ Video technology and virtual 7.1-channel surround sound with DTS Headphone: X.

The ASUS ZenFone 3 Ultra (first impressions) is the company’s largest smartphone till date, sporting a 6.8-inch full HD screen. The brand claims that the Tru2Life+ video technology on ZenFone 3 Ultra harnesses a high-end 4K UHD TV-grade image processor, which optimises every pixel in each frame before it is presented to deliver better contrast and clarity. This one is powered by a 1.8GHz octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 652 processor, aided by 4 gigs of RAM and Adreno 510 graphics. It packs in a beefy 4,600mAh battery, which tops up quickly thanks to the Quick Charge 3.0 support. The rest of its specifications are similar to the ZenFone 3 Deluxe.

Pricing and availability

The ASUS ZenFone 3’s 5.2-inch variant has been priced at Rs 21,999, while the 5.5-inch model will set you back by Rs 27.999. The phone comes in Gold, Blue, Black or White hues. The ZenFone 3 Laser carries a price tag of Rs 18,990. The ZenFone 3 Deluxe comes in Grey, Silver or Gold variants, and will be available for Rs 49,999. The more powerful model of the ZenFone 3 with Snapdragon 821 and 6GB of RAM will set you back by Rs 62,999. The ZenFone 3 Ultra is priced at Rs 49,999, and is being offered in Grey, Silver or Pink variants. The ZenFone 3 will be available to buy from major e-commerce websites Flipkart, Amazon and Snapdeal starting today, and it will also go on sale in offline stores before the end of August. Its siblings will be going on sale next month onwards.
