ZenFone 6 alleged prototypes suggest ASUS experimenting with display hole, notch design

“As many as three ASUS Zenfone 6 series prototypes have leaked online, showing the company is experimenting with the notch and camera sensors”

ASUS is well known for its ZenFone lineup and the company has produced some good affordable devices in the last year, such as the ZenFone Max M1 Pro and the ZenFone 5Z. Now, three new prototypes have surfaced of ASUS Zenfone 6 series smartphones have appeared online, giving us a look at the designs the could be experimenting with. Of course, it should be pointed out that these are all prototypes so the final version of the ZenFone 6 series models may look very different from the what we see in the pictures.

The first leak comes courtesy a video by Brazilian YouTube Rodrigo Portella, and shows the first ZenFone 6 prototype image shows the smartphone will have a cutout on the top left side of the display to house the front camera. There are slim bezels above the display as well as on the sides, while the chin below the screen is relatively thicker. Interestingly the prototype also shows off a vertically-stacked camera at the back along with a fingerprint sensor. This particular prototype also features a 3.5mm headphone jack at the bottom and metal frame on the sides. However, there is no fingerprint sensor on the back of this prototype model.

The second prototype in this list was leaked in video posted by YouTube channel Rede Geek and shows a small notch at the top right corner of the device. Furthermore, the glossy back reveals waterproof marking. Once again the slim bezels on the top and sides are countered by the thicker chin. Its rear casing is graced by a triple lens camera setup and a fingerprint sensor. There seem to be two variants under consideration here, one with a water-resistant design and the other without it.

The third prototype has been leaked online by YouTube channel C4E Tech in a video that shows a display with a regular waterdrop notch. The notch apart, the bezels on the sides and top are thinner compared to the bottom. At the rear, the device features a triple camera setup alongside the LED flash and fingerprint sensor. The only difference between the current ZenFone 5Z and this prototype is the triple camera setup at the rear.

All the three designs we just discussed are prototypes and it is quite possible that the final product might end up completely different. The biggest takeaway from these prototypes is that companies other than Samsung are working on display holes and this might just become the trend in the near future.
