“The ASUS media invite mentions the smartphone it is launching will bear the ZenFone branding, putting the ROG Phone India launch out of contention”
ASUS has sent out media invites to a smartphone launch event it will be hosting in India on October 17th. While the invite does not mention which smartphone ASUS will be unveiling at the event, it does say it will be part of the ZenFone series. This puts the long awaited ASUS ROG Phone gaming smartphone out of contention; the company had previously confirmed the first-ever ROG-branded phone will make it to India this year.
The next ASUS ZenFone smartphone will be unveiled in New Delhi, with the event scheduled to start at 12:30pm IST. The event will be accompanied by a live stream that will let fans join in on the action in real-time and get all the updates live without missing a beat. There is no word yet on which smartphone could be launching, or the price segment it could belong to.
The only ASUS ZenFone-branded models that has been leaked in the last few weeks has been the ZenFone Max Pro M2 and ZenFone Max M2, respectively successors of the ZenFone Max Pro M1 and ZenFone Max M1 smartphones. A recent listing on Russian certification site EEC shows both the handsets will be running Android Oreo out-of-the-box, and bear model numbers ZB631KL and ZB633KL, respectively.
However, since the ZenFone Max Pro M1 and ZenFone Max M1 are both less than a year old, it is very unlikely the brand will be launching their successors at the event. But the wait will not be too long as the event is just a few days away and we will know all about the new models headed to India soon enough.
