“The latest FOTA update for the ASUS ZenFone Max Pro M2 and Max M2 brings AI camera scene detection and system optimisations“
Not even a month has passed since ASUS rolled out the last over the air (OTA) update for the ASUS ZenFone Max Pro M2 (review) and Max M2 (review). The update brought Google’s security patches for December 2018 and optimised camera performance for these two smartphones. Now, the Taiwanese brand has pushed out yet another OTA update for these phones, which bring more camera optimisations and latest security patch.
The latest OTA update for ZenFone Max Pro M2 bears the version number 15.2016.1901.186, whereas the one for Max M2 has 15.2016.1901.156 number. ASUS is rolling out these updates in a phased manner, so it might take a little while to reach all users. The update for Max Pro M2 brings support for AI camera scene detection and improved front camera quality. Apart from these, the update also offers upgraded touchscreen firmware, improved front camera quality, improved system power consumption and Google security patch for January 2019.
The update for Max M2 gets all of these except for the touchscreen firmware, front camera improvements and improved system power consumption.
For the uninitiated, the ZenFone Max Pro M2 comes with a 6.26-inch, Full HD+ display with 19:9 aspect ratio, and a notch at the top of the display. It gets the the Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 AIE processor backed by up to 6GB of RAM and 64GB storage. For cameras, the phone offers a 12-megapixel primary camera and a 5-megapixel depth-aiding camera on the rear and a 13-megapixel shooter on the front. The smartphone is powered by a beefy 5,000mAh battery.
Notably, ASUS had announced that the ZenFone Max Pro M2 will receive the Android Pie update in January 2019. However, that has not happened yet and it seems that the smartphone might receive the latest update at the same time predecessor, the ZenFone Max Pro M1 (review).
