“Asus ZenFone 5Z Android Pie update is slated to arrive on the handset as an OTA firmware update by the end of January 2019”
ASUS has announced it will be releasing the Android 9 Pie update for its flagship-class ZenFone 5Z smartphone early next year. The ZenFone 5Z Android Pie software update will be pushed over the air to all compatible units sold in the country. However, the wait will be long for owners of the handset as ASUS has given the end of January 2019 as the timeline for the rollout of the update.
When the ZenFone 5Z Android Pie update in India starts rolling out, a notification asking users to download the firmware update will appear in the status bar. But those eager for a flavour of Android Pie can check for the update under the About Phone section of the Settings app. ASUS says the handset will restart twice during the update process.
The ZenFone 5Z smartphone runs Android Oreo-based ZenUI custom software, so the skin based on Android Pie may or may not have all the new features the latest version of Google’s mobile OS brings. Nonetheless, it is safe to expect the gesture-based navigation, Digital Wellbeing, and Adaptive Display and Battery to make it to the handset. ASUS’ statement does mention “an all-new contextual pop-up volume bar and a new Magnifier feature for easier copy-and-paste” so those have definitely made the cut.
ASUS ZenFone 5Z is the company’s top smartphone in the Indian market at the moment and is packs the same Snapdragon 845 SoC that powers the likes of OnePlus 6T. It has a full-screen design with 18:9 aspect ratio and 6.2-inch display with 1,080 x 2,246 pixel resolution. On the back are dual 12MP + 8MP cameras, while an 8MP shooter is in the front. The smartphone has a fingerprint sensor on the back, a 3,300mAh battery, 3.5mm audio jack, and USB Type-C port.
The ZenFone 5Z price in India for the base 6GB RAM + 64GB storage variant is Rs 29,999. The variants with 6GB RAM + 128GB storage and 8GB RAM + 256GB storage are officially priced at Rs 32,999 and Rs 36,999, respectively. However, it is a staple of Flipkart sales and can easily be picked up Rs 5,000 cheaper.
