Ather Energy could be working on a more affordable Ather 450 electric scooter variant and has now trademarked the “450S” and “Ather 450S” nomenclature. The electric scooter could be a new more affordable Ather 450 variant or could even be a new name for the recently introduced affordable Ather 450X, which sits below the Ather 450X with the Pro Pack. The Ather 450 range caters to the premium electric scooter segment in India and competes with the likes of the Ola S1 Pro, Bajaj Chetak, TVS iQube and Vida V1.

Ather 450S nomenclature trademarked

Ather trademarked the “Ather 450S” and “450S” names in India, a newly leaked document suggests (via Rush Lane). The new product from Ather Energy could be positioned as an affordable offering that would cater to the lower end of the electric scooter market in India.

The new name however could be utilised in two possible ways to better differentiate the product from others in the company’s portfolio. Ather Energy could launch a whole new Ather 450X derivative in a more affordable package, which will include a slightly smaller battery pack, reduced software features, lesser new-age gadgetry, etc.

However, Ather might also use this new trademarked nomenclature to rename the current base Ather 450X without the Pro Pack. This could be done to make the product line’s naming easier to understand for customers. The company could also include support for faster charging and a portable charger in this new offering and customers could only upgrade to the higher spec Ather 450X model with the Pro Pack to avail advanced software features.

Multiple OEMs are channelising efforts to roll out affordable electric two-wheeler offerings to maintain strong sales figures as the FAME subsidy implementation becomes tighter and state subsidies get depleted.
