“The Black Shark 2 is powered by the Snapdragon 855 and includes several gaming focused features”

Xiaomi-backed company Black Shark recently launched its latest gaming flagship smartphone in China. The all new Black Shark 2 (first impressions) features a rugged body and screams gaming all over. It is powered by the Snapdragon 855 chipset, has RGB lights on the sides and the back, and is, on paper, a great phone for gaming. We thought it would be a good idea for us to compare the specifications of this phone with the OnePlus 7 Pro (review). The latest flagship from OnePlus is similarly spec’d and is also a great gaming device. Let’s get right into it!

Black Shark 2 vs OnePlus 7 Pro specifications, design

In the design department, the OnePlus 7 Pro features an elegant and sleek body made out of glass. The front of the phone is all display and it has slim bezels all around. The back glass features gradient finish, which gives the phone a great look. The Black Shark 2 is all about gaming, and features a rugged design made out of glass and aluminium. The back of the phone features an RGB logo and there are light strips on both the sides. It isn’t completely bezel-less like the OnePlus and features stereo speakers on the front. The phone definitely has a unique appearance that will surely turn more heads.

The display on the Black Shark 2 is a 6.39-inch full-HD+ AMOLED panel with an in-display fingerprint scanner. It’s a regular 60Hz panel with a 240Hz touch response rate and pressure sensitivity. However, the OnePlus 7 Pro comes with a QHD+ 90Hz 6.67-inch AMOLED display, which will be better for gaming. The OnePlus model also features an in-display fingerprint scanner. Coming to the internals, both the smartphones are powered by the latest Snapdragon 855 chipset and you also get up to 12GB of RAM on both devices with up to 256GB storage. There’s no expandable storage on either phones.

For cameras, the Black Shark 2 comes with a dual-rear camera setup. You get a primary 48-megapixel sensor, which is paired with a 12-megapixel telephoto sensor. For selfies, a 20-megapixel sensor is available up front. Meanwhile, the OnePlus 7 Pro features a triple-rear camera setup with a main 48-megapixel sensor, a 16-megapixel wide-angle sensor, and an 8-megapixel telephoto unit. On the front, there’s a 16-megapixel sensor for selfies. The camera on the OnePlus device is also better than the unit on the Black Shark 2.

OnePlus 7 Pro review006

Since the Black Shark 2 is a gaming device, it comes with enhanced cooling tech to keep the phone cool during heavy gaming sessions. It also features a powerful haptic vibration motor and an add-on game pad with physical buttons. There’s also a gaming mode called Shark Space that will block all notifications and improve performance. The phone even features a dedicated Shark button, which will further boost performance while gaming.

Both devices feature a 4,000mAh battery, but the OnePlus 7 Pro has slightly faster charging via Warp Charge 30, compared to the 27W charging speed on the Black Shark 2. As for software, the OnePlus runs on OxygenOS based on Android 9.0 Pie, while the Black Shark runs on Black Shark OS which is also based on Android 9.0 Pie.

If you want a device that’s cheaper and is a great gaming device with looks that will turn heads, then you should probably get the Black Shark 2. If you don’t care about RGB lights and want a better display and cameras, then we suggest you go for the OnePlus 7 Pro.
