BSNL offers 5GB free data to customers porting from Jio, Airtel, and Vi, but there’s a big catch

Highlights
  • The ongoing prepaid tariff hike has seemingly increased user interest in switching to BSNL lately.
  • The government-led telco seems to have realised this and has started capitalising on it.
  • Switching from private telcos to BSNL will fetch you 5GB of free data.

Back in 2021, almost all the leading telecom companies in India like Jio, Airtel, and Vodafone Idea increased the prices of their prepaid recharge plans. This has potentially led several consumers to start showing interest in switching from Jio, Airtel, and Vi to BSNL. 91mobiles recently reported that there had been an increase in consumer interest to switch to the government-run telco because of the price hike. Turns out BSNL seems to have taken note of the same and has announced a new lucrative scheme for those who want to port to its network. If one does port, BSNL is offering 5GB of free data to welcome customers.

Porting to BSNL will give you 5GB of free data

The state-owned telco recently took to Twitter to announce the latest promotional scheme. The company announced that existing Jio, Airtel, and Vi customers who will port to BSNL will get 5GB of free data, which will be valid for 30 days or till the validity of the current plan (whichever is earlier). The offer is for a limited time and interested users will have to get things done by January 15, 2022.

How to get 5GB free data from BSNL?

That said, things are not that simple. Interested customers will have to follow certain guidelines to be able to avail themselves of the 5GB free data offer. For instance, the customer will have to cite a reason for switching to BSNL on their social media handles using the #SwitchToBSNL, tag BSNL, and follow the company’s social media handles. You will then have to send them the proof that you have done all this to get the 5GB data.

Furthermore, it is compulsory to follow the BSNL’s Twitter and Facebook handles and share/retweet (platform dependent) all the posts related to the ongoing #SwitchToBSNL campaign on their timeline. Post all this, the customer will need to share a screenshot of the tweet/post to BSNL via WhatsApp on 9457086024. That sounds like a lot of work for 5GB of data, doesn’t it? Well, that’s the effort you’d have to make in order to get it. Plus, you will have successfully switched to BSNL. So, win-win?
