The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), which is looking into the unlimited 5G data plans offered by Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel, is also examining the unlimited data plans provided by the Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) and Vodafone Idea (Vi), as per report by ET Telecom.

It’s important to note that, in India, only Bharti Airtel and Reliance Jio offer 5G services, and they are currently giving unlimited 5G data via select plans. BSNL and Vi, on the other hand, offer unlimited 3G and 4G internet plans.

BSNL, Vodafone under TRAI scanner

As per the report, which cited a TRAI official, the officials have asked BSNL and Vodafone Idea for details because they have been informed that both companies are selling unlimited plans. In order to determine if BSNL and Vodafone Idea are charging predatory prices for their 3G and 4G unlimited data plans, TRAI is examining the circumstances and price points in which they are being offered.

BSNL, Vodafone unlimited data plans

In a popular plan for Rs 397, BSNL gives “unlimited data benefits” with no fair use policy (FUP) limit, as well as unlimited voice calls. Vodafone Idea, on the other hand, has a plan for Rs 2,999 that lasts for 365 days and has “no limit on daily data” usage.

In the meantime, media reports say that TRAI plans to advise Bharti Airtel and Reliance Jio to stop giving unlimited 5G data in their plans. This comes after the regulator looked into a recent protest by Vodafone Idea that the two operators were charging too much.
