“The latest lens adds a fifth member in the Canon RF-mount lens lineup, which caters to the R-series of full-frame mirrorless cameras”
Canon has launched a new member in its RF-mount lens lineup, its latest series for the EOS R full-frame mirrorless camera. The latest entrant is the 85mm f/1.2L USM prime lens, which would qualify as one of the highest fidelity and fastest lenses in the entire Canon lineup right now. Given its positioning, the 85mm f/1.2L USM is also rather pricey, offered at an all-inclusive price of Rs 2,19,995.
Given the maximum aperture of f/1.2, the RF 85mm lens enables ultra lowlight photography by letting in far more light than other, standard 85mm lenses. As a result, it enables photographers to shoot at high shutter speeds at extreme conditions such as fast motion in low natural or ambient light. The lens gets a nine blade circular aperture, which on paper promises rich, circular bokehs. At f/1.2, the RF 85mm is capable of producing incredibly shallow depth of field on a subject, which can simultaneously create super-soft blurred backgrounds, hence keeping subjects in sharp focus. The USM classification also signifies the ultrasonic motor, thereby signifying fast autofocus and no AF motor noise while shooting films.
The RF 85mm comes with minimum focusing distance of 0.85m. On the inside, in order to reduce flare, internal reflections and better backlight absorption, the lens gets Canon’s Air Sphere Coating (ASC) technology. Like the rest of the new RF lens lineup, the 85mm one also gets the control ring that offers custom-assignable setting values, including aperture, shutter speed, exposure compensation level, and ISO. Like others, the lens is also dust and drip resistant, getting general weather and ingress sealing and hence matching the EOS R’s robust weather sealing to shoot at a wide range of conditions.
Alongside the now-introduced EF 85mm f/1.2L USM lens, the other lenses in the Canon RF lineup include 24-105mm f/4L IS USM, 28-70mm f/2L USM, 35mm f/1.8 IS STM, and 50mm f/1.2L USM. All five of the RF-mount lenses are now available in India.
