How to watch Nokia MWC 2019 event live

Nokia will be giving out updates of its MWC 2019 event via its social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. Interested users can tune in to watch the Nokia 9 PureView launch online via the YouTube video embedded below. If you’re living in India, the Nokia MWC 2019 event will start at 8:30pm on February 24th.

Nokia 9 PureView specifications

Going by the leaks and rumours, the Nokia 9 PureView is going to be the world’s first smartphone with five rear cameras. The resolutions of each sensor are unknown at the moment, but a report claims that the phone will have 64MP photography mode that will combine data from all the five sensors. Although the phone is said to be a flagship offering, it’ll most likely have Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset instead of the latest Snapdragon 855 ticking at its core.

nokia_9_pureview_evleaks_5

On the software side of things, the Nokia 9 PureView will reportedly boot stock Android 9 Pie out of the box and will be part of the Android One program. The handset is said to come with 6GB of RAM and a 5.99-inch 2K display with HDR10 compliance. That’s all we know so far!

As for the other smartphones, not much is known at the moment. Of course, it is rumoured that the Nokia 1 Plus will be an Android Go phone, while Nokia 3.2 will be a successor to the Nokia 3.2. However, Nokia 4.2 remains an unknown quantity as the brand has not release a ‘4’ series phone so far and is straightaway going to the 4.2 moniker.

Lenovo Z6 Pro MWC 2019 launch teased in official teaser poster

0

“Much about the upcoming Lenovo Z6 Pro smartphone remains shrouded in mystery”

Lenovo recently became the first company to announce the first Snapdragon 855-toting smartphone – the Lenovo Z5 Pro GT – late last year. In fact, it was a flagship from the company after quite a time and it was also the company’s first slider smartphone with a full-screen design. Now, the company has teased a new smartphone today to be announced soon at MWC 2019 as the Lenovo Z6 Pro. The company teased the new handset on social media today and it’s the first instance we’ve heard of what appears to be the successor of  Lenovo Z5 Pro.

lenovo-teaser-compressed

At the moment, there’s almost next to nothing that we can say about the device right now. All the teaser hints at is what could be an in-display fingerprint sensor thanks to the concentric circles in the but the feature is already on too many smartphones right now to be the highlight of the device. The other possibility is of a wireless charging feature which is usually on premium devices. It could also possibly be a 5G version or even just a global variant of the current flagship. That’s all we can say about the upcoming device. Lenovo will make the device official anytime between February 25th and February 28th.

As for the Lenovo Z5 Pro, the handset has a Snapdragon 710 SoC running the show with 6GB of RAM. On the surface, it rocks a slider design with a 6.39-inch full-HD+ AMOLED display and an on-screen fingerprint reader. The dual rear camera setup consists of a 16-megapixel main sensor and a 24-megapixel secondary sensor. The handset has a 3,350mAh battery that fuels Android 8.1 Oreo along with ZUI 10. The Z5 Pro GT is just a more powerful version with Snapdragon 855 SoC and 12GB of RAM.

[MWC 2019]: Sony Xperia XZ4 hinted in a cryptic teaser video ahead of event

0

“The Sony Xperia XZ4 is speculated to come with the widest display featuring a 21:9 aspect ratio”

The coveted tech expo, MWC 2019 is less than a week away and anticipation is high as expected. Sony has already announced that it will be organising an event on February 25th, where the brand is expected to launch several smartphones including its flagship Xperia XZ4. Ahead of the event, the company has taken to Twitter to post a cryptic video announcing the upcoming event

The tweet from the brand read, “Embrace a new perspective with #Xperia at #SonyMWC.” The tweet also reveals that the event will kickstart at 8:45am CET, which is 1:15pm Indian time. While the tweet doesn’t particularly hint at anything specific, rumours are suggesting this is a nod to the upcoming flagship from the brand – Xperia XZ4. Moreover, the background illustration in the video is uncannily similar to the wallpaper we have recently seen in the leaked renders of Xperia L3Xperia XA3 or 10 and Xperia 10 Plus or XA3 Plus. Therefore, Sony might have hinted towards the launch of several smartphones at the upcoming event, in the latest video.

Xperia XZ4 5

As for the Xperia XZ4, the flagship is speculated to flaunt a 6.4-inch QHD+ OLED screen along with a tall aspect ratio of 21:9. The handset will have the latest and greatest Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 855 chipset ticking at its core, accompanied by 6GB of RAM and 128GB storage. The rumours suggest that the smartphone will feature a triple rear camera module with the primary sensor being a 52-megapixel (f/1.6) unit accompanied by a 16-megapixel f/2.6 telephoto lens and a 0.3-megapixel f/1.4 ToF camera. The flagship is likely to boot Android 9 Pie out of the box and will be powered by a 4,000mAh battery. The IP68 certified flagship will be offered in Blue, Black, Silver, and Purple hues.

As of now, there is no word on the pricing and the availability of the phone. 91mobiles will be present on the floor at MWC 2019 to bring you all the latest update, so stay tuned.

MWC 2019: ZTE to announce a New Axon device and a 5G flagship smartphone

0

“The image on Weibo shows two names – ‘New Axon’ and ‘New 5G flagship’, so there could be a chance of one flagship device that will arrive with the support of 5G-network.”

This year the Mobile World Congress is scheduled to take place from February 25th in Barcelona. Ahead of the event, several smartphone makers are teasing their upcoming devices through social media and other mediums. ZTE has also joined the bandwagon and teased its upcoming products for the 2019 MWC.

According to an image posted on Weibo, ZTE has planned a press conference in Barcelona on February 25th at 10:30 CET. The teaser image hints at a “New Axon” and a “New 5G Flagship”. However, it is unclear whether there will be two smartphones or just one. The image does not reveal any details apart from the time and date of the event. Rumours, however, suggest that there might be just one flagship Axon device that will also support the 5G network.
ZTE-MWC-2019If ZTE is planning to introduce two devices or one 5G-enabled flagship smartphone in the upcoming MWC, it would be a significant step towards its coming back in the market, as the brand has witnessed a temporary import ban and a problem regarding the US trade violation. Although, ZTE at 2018 IFA (Internationale Funkausstellung) in Berlin announced that it has fully recovered from the ban and launched the ZTE Axon 9 Pro, which arrives with an iPhone X-like notch.

There are chances that the device in question could be the ZTE Axon 10 Pro, which will presumably be the successor to ZTE Axon 9 Pro. The new device was recently certified in Russia with Snapdragon 855 processor and is said to be the competitor of the Samsung Galaxy S10, which is also powered by the same chipset.

nubia to showcase its flexible smartphone at MWC 2019

0

“The Chinese company has posted an invite on Weibo for its MWC 2019 event with the tagline ‘Flex Your Life'”

This year’s MWC Barcelona is going to be an action-packed affair. Plenty of announcements have already been lined up for the four-day exhibition, while a few product invites are still making their way. Latest one to join pack is nubia, which has posted an invite on Weibo for its launch event with the tagline ‘Flex Your Life’ along with an image suggesting a flexible device. Going by the teaser, the product will be launched in partnership with China Unicorn.

It’s worth noting that last year during IFA in Berlin, Nubia had showcased a flexible wearable smartphone prototype called the nubia Alpha (in pictures) featuring a curved OLED screen. The company had titled it the world’s most advanced wearable at the time.

nubia’s CEO Ni Fei recently said that the brand will introduce a new wearable product with a flexible display, probably based on a similar design of the Alpha prototype. He also said that the device will be more practical for day-to-day usage, and may start a new trend for wearables category. This makes us believe that the upcoming product could be a refined version of the nubia Alpha.

nubia Alpha in pictures - 91mobiles 04

The werable device seems to be nubia’s unique take on the foldable devices phenomenon. From Samsung to Huawei, and from OPPO to Xiaomi — all the phonemakers are expected to launch foldable smartphones, with many of them expected to take covers off from their offerings at the Mobile World Congress itself.

MWC 2019: what to expect from Samsung, Sony, Xiaomi, and more

0

“Here’s what you could expect at the biggest smartphone gala in 2019”

The world’s biggest mobile phone gathering is about to commence in the next few weeks, and we just can’t contain the excitement. This show will mark the start of the season for this year’s major smartphone launches. 5G will definitely be a buzzword, along with next-gen smartphone designs such as foldable screens. Of course, the main attractions will definitely be the flagship phones that the big guns will be unveiling at their respective press conferences. So if you’re wondering what all might be in store for us this Mobile World Congress, you’ve come to the right place.

Samsung

Samsung foldable phoneSamsung’s major press conference will be happening a week before the MWC, so you can expect the S10 smartphones to be unveiled there. However, the South Korean giant will indeed be present at the event, and we expect other important products to be showcased by there. It could even reveal its foldable Galaxy smartphone, which has been churning the rumour mills since a very long time. This phone will apparently host a 7.3-inch screen when unfolded. There’s talk about a Galaxy Active smartwatch as well, so the South Korean giant could use the MWC stage to unveil that.

LG

LG G8 5K RendersThe LG G8 ThinQ has been all but confirmed for an MWC debut. One of its main features is being said to be a 3D imaging-based face unlock technology similar to what the iPhone has. But that’s not all; rumour has it LG will also be revealing its very first 5G phone at this event. This device will apparently run on the Snapdragon 855 platform and sport a 4,000mAh battery. But does this mean that the LG G8 will feature the inferior Snapdragon 845 processor? Let’s wait and watch.

There are also rumours of a budget-centric K12+ to be unveiled at the congress.

Related read: LG G8 ThinQ rumour roundup

Sony

Xperia XZ4 2 (1)

Sony has scheduled a presser for February 25th, and many believe that the Xperia XZ4 will be unveiled at this conference. Some really interesting details about this phone have been seeping out lately. It will supposedly ship with an extremely wide 21:9 aspect ratio display. Moreover, there’s even talk of a beefy 4,400mAh battery going inside it, apart from the Snapdragon 855 chipset.

Nokia

Nokia-9-render-feat

Nokia is known for debuting multiple devices at the MWC, which is something that could hold true for this year as well. We could get to see the rumoured Nokia 8.1 Plus with a punch-hole camera. But the main reason many are looking forward to the February 24th’s press conference from the company is the long-delayed Nokia 9 PureView. This phone has apparently been blessed with a five-camera system, and is set to the mark a return of the PureView branding.

Related read: Nokia 9 PureView rumour roundup

Xiaomi

Xiaomi Mi MIX 3 5G

Xiaomi is another company to have scheduled a press conference at this year’s MWC. This one will take place on February 24th, and although we have no clue about what’s on offer, we could guess that a 5G version of the previously unveiled Mi Mix 3 (first impressions) could be launched here.

OPPO

OPPO 10x zoom lensThere’s a great reason to look forward to OPPO’s presser at the MWC. The Chinese brand has already confirmed that it will be showing off its 10x zoom lens at the event. Whether it will be attached to a concept device or a market-ready one is the real question. This technology is expected to be similar to the 5x zoom tech the company had unveiled a few years ago. It uses a periscope-style prism and harnesses the lateral width of the phone to allow physical depth.

Vivo

Vivo APEX 2019 FB featVivo has also told us what to expect from its conference. The APEX 2019 concept, which ships with a full-screen front surface with no visible front camera is what we’ll get to see. It’s a 5G-compatible handset with a hole-less design. You’ll be able to charge it using the magnetic pins on its rear surface, and it will make use of the ‘body soundcasting’ technology to emit sound. Last year’s APEX device was the base for the company’s innovative NEX smartphone, so expect the same to be the case this year as well.

Motorola

Motorola RAZR 2019 Foldable PhoneWith the Moto G7 range already unveiled, Motorola might just surprise us with by taking the wraps off the rumoured Moto RAZR refresh. If leaked documents are to be believed, this phone will follow the flip design philosophy of the original device, but will couple it with a foldable display rather than placing a keypad below the screen. It is also predicted to be a limited edition launch, with only 200,000 units having been sanctioned for production.

HTC

HTC-U12-Life-first-impressions-91mobiles-01_thumb.jpg

There has been a significant drop in the number of phones HTC has been releasing lately, so its MWC predictions are difficult to make. The only phone that can be expected to make a debut here is the updated version of the mid-range HTC U12 Life (first impressions), which could ship with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage onboard.

Huawei

Huaweis-next-flagship-the-P30-confirmed-for-unveiling-in-late-MarchThe P30 and P30 Pro handsets from Huawei have been buzzing on the interwebs a lot lately. However, the P20 range (review) was unveiled by the company in March last year, so if Huawei does follow the same pattern, their presence at the MWC is doubtful. That said, the brand has scheduled an event for February 24th, where we could see a foldable smartphone or even a 5G-capable device.

Microsoft

Microsoft Holo Lens - Featured

Invites have been sent by Microsoft for a press conference taking place on February 24th. Satya Nadella will be present at the stage along with Alex Kipman, who is in charge of HoloLens. This leads us to believe that the HoloLens 2 is on the cards. What’s more interesting is that the new product is rumoured to feature a Snapdragon processor, a smaller body and a bigger battery. The Redmond giant has invested a lot in its mixed reality offering, so it would be interesting to see what route it wants to take with second-gen HoloLens.

We’ll be bringing you detailed coverage from the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, so stay tuned to 91mobiles

OnePlus hosting an invite-only event at MWC 2019 to “reimagine the future”

0

“For once, there are no prior leaks or information about this upcoming secret event, which hints at something intriguing from OnePlus.”

OnePlus has sent out invites for an exclusive, invite-only event, to be held at the upcoming Mobile World Congress. The invite, which reads, “Reimagine the future with OnePlus. Join OnePlus at Ultramarinos where drinks and a taste of the future will be on us. We’ll be celebrating MWC 2019 at this exclusive, invite-only event.” Exactly what ‘taste of the future’ refers to remains to be seen, although going by the sound of it, OnePlus is offering more than just a sneak peek at its already-leaked, upcoming smartphone, the OnePlus 7.

Such closed door, invite-only events are certainly not unprecedented, but are fewer in number. They also usually indicate some offbeat project that offers more innovation and user-end excitement, than the mundane device launches. For instance, Samsung took to CES 2019 to provide its vendors and partners with a closed-door preview of its upcoming foldable smartphone, although we had our fair share of leaks, rumours and renders of it. In this case, however, we pretty much have no idea about what OnePlus wants to “reimagine the future” about.

OnePlus MWC 2019 invite

Among known projects, the OnePlus 7 flagship smartphone is the one coming next from the brand. That, however, does not quite sound like reimagining the future — it is highly unlikely that OnePlus will go out of its proven path of flagship smartphones at comparatively affordable prices, at least with its main device. The company is also known to be developing a 5G-enabled smartphone, which is reportedly being made separately from the OnePlus 7. That however, does not quite count as a world-beating idea, either.

At this stage, we don’t really have an idea on what exactly OnePlus intends to announce or showcase at the MWC event. There’s a chance it could be just a meetup, just like previous years, or if we’re lucky, a look at a truly exciting new device.

Either way, we should hear more about it at the closed-door event on February 24th in Barcelona. With the amount of hopes that have suddenly risen around it, we’d be pretty miffed if it ended up being some mundane idea under the guise of clever marketing material.

[MWC 2019]: Nokia to host launch event on February 24th; Nokia 9, Nokia 6.2 expected

0

“The upcoming Nokia smartphones are also expected to be Android One-branded”

Nokia’s Chief Product Officer Juho Sarvikas has teased February 24th as the launch date for its devices. The company has once again chosen Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2019 — world’s biggest tech trade show — to showcase what it has in store. Much like last year, Nokia’s license holder HMD Global may take the wraps off new smartphones, including the rumoured Nokia 9 PureView, Nokia 8.1 Plus, and Nokia 6.2.

Nokia 9_featured_2

The Nokia 9 PureView is expected to be a flagship offering and the world’s first smartphone with five camera setup. You heard it right! The handset is tipped to feature Penta cameras at the back panel. It’ll most likely flaunt a 5.99-inch display – probably with an 18:9 aspect ratio, 2K resolution, and Nokia’s PureView tech. Under the hood, it may employ Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 845 chipset accompanied by 6GB of RAM and 128GB native storage.

Nokia 8.1 Plus (concept render)
Nokia 8.1 Plus (concept render)

The Nokia 6.2 and Nokia 8.1 Plus are expected to be mid-range offerings. The alleged Nokia 6.2 will come as a successor to Nokia 6.1 or Nokia 6 (2018). It’s tipped to flaunt a punch-hole display like the Galaxy A8s and Honor View 20 and Snapdragon 632 chipset. The Nokia 8.1 Plus, on the other hand, will most likely be a slightly more powerful version of the recently launched Nokia 8.1. The handset is expected to come with a punch-hole style display with front camera at the top and Snapdragon 710 SoC ticking at its core. Other than these smartphones, Nokia could also introduce a few more devices such as new feature phones. Stay tuned to know more.

As for the MWC 2019, it’s slated to start from February 25th in Barcelona, Spain. As stated above it’s the biggest tech trade show in the world where several OEMs – including Samsung, Huawei, LG, and Xiaomi – showcase their upcoming offering or technology that might end up on consumers hand in the next few months.

LG teases a new gestures-only smartphone for MWC 2019

0

“The LG phone unveiled at MWC 2019 will seemingly feature a unique UI that works on hand gestures”

LG has shared media invites for an unveiling event at the next month’s Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona. Going by the invite, which is in the form of a short video, the Korean manufacturer might be launching a new flagship with a touch-less UI. It is not clear which handset would be unveiled, but LG G8 is among the smartphones speculated for a MWC 2019 unveiling.

The LG MWC 2019 video starts with the message “Goodbye Touch” written on a white piece of paper, which is then effortlessly swiped away by a hand gesture to reveal the event will take place at MWC, on February 24th. Although we don’t know much about this unnamed device, the video hints at a new type of display and user interface that can be fully controlled via hand gestures without requiring any touch input.

In a similar case earlier this month, Google’s radar-based gesture control system for mobile devices, Project Soli, received FCC approval for use in the 57GHz to 64GHz frequency band. Announced by Google back in 2015, Project Soli aims to deploy radar-based motion sensors in chips that will allow users to operate electronic devices using hand gestures. The idea behind this is that instead of tapping directly on a screen, the project aims to use gestures like rubbing your thumb and index finger together to control a smartwatch or smart speaker. It was believed to be dead by many but the FCC approval this month has confirmed that the project is being developed at Google’s “Advanced Technology and Projects” (ATAP) division.

If LG is able to successfully launch a gesture based smartphone at the MWC next month, it could help boost the struggling Korean manufacturer’s standing in the smartphone market, which is currently being headed by the likes of Apple, Samsung and Huawei.

OPPO sends out invites for MWC 2019 event, foldable phone expected

0

“OPPO has previously confirmed it will showcase a smartphone with 10x zoom as well as a foldable phone at MWC 2019”

OPPO has sent out media invitations for an event it will be hosting at Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2019. Named the ‘OPPO 2019 Innovation Event, it is scheduled for February 23rd and is being promoted on social media with the hashtag #GetCloser. The invitation itself doesn’t give any hints regarding what we can expect from the OPPO event. Of course, the hashtag alludes to the first phone with 10x zoom that the company has already promised for MWC 2019.

Previously, the China-based smartphone maker said that it would be exploring new technologies on Connectivity, Artificial Intelligence, Digital Wellness and Digital Trust at this year’s MWC. GizmoChina points out that the media invitation sent now by OPPO is foldable, which suggests that the company could showcase its foldable smartphone at the mega expo.

OPPO Product Manager Chuck Wang had previously confirmed that it will announce its first foldable device at the MWC 2019. However, he did not mention any other information regarding the specifications or release date of the invention. As of now, there is no confirmation available regarding which approach the foldable device will follow – a fold-in design, clamshell, wraparound, or something else entirely.

Speaking about the OPPO 10X hybrid zoom technology that was announced last week, it is claimed to capture lossless images irrespective of the distance between the camera and the object. The new setup will provide a zoom range of 15.9mm to 159mm and will use a primary camera, a periscope-style telephoto lens, and an ultra-wide camera.

Xiaomi schedules MWC 2019 event for February 24th, Mi Mix 3 5G expected

0

“Xiaomi’s next-gen Mi Mix 3 5G variant will be aided by Qualcomm’s X50 modem, which doubles the internet bandwidth up to 2Gbps on mobile devices.”

Xiaomi has confirmed that it’ll hold a media briefing on February 24th, day zero of the MWC 2019. The company is expected to launch the Mi Mix 3‘s 5G variant at the event. Xiaomi’s Mi Mix 3 was launched last year in China and the company announced that it’d be launching its 5G variant in Europe in Q1 of 2019. Speculations are rife that the smartphone could be launched at this event. As the upcoming MWC is expected to host several 5G devices, it makes sense that Xiaomi would also launch the Mi Mix 3 5G variant at the event.

Xiaomi Mi Mix 3

Formerly, at the China Mobile Partner Conference in Beijing, the company unveiled and gave a practical explanation of a working prototype of the 5G-enabled Mi Mix 3. It was then revealed that this next-gen device will be supported with Qualcomm’s X50 modem. The modem can double the internet bandwidth up to 2Gbps on mobile devices. This modem can be opted with Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 SoC-based smartphone.

Apart from this 5G network capability, the Mi Mix 3 5G variant will retain the same internals as the existing 4G-enabled device. Also, there will be Integrating antennae for mmWave 5G spectrum. The Mi Mix 3 4G-variant flaunts a 6.39-inch Super AMOLED display, having a resolution of 1,080 X 2,340 pixels. Corning Gorilla Glass 5 will be added to protect the screen from damages.

Besides the aforementioned technical configuration, the device will be powered by an octa-core processor, same as the 4G-compliant device. It will draw the charge from a non-removable Li-ion 3,200mAh battery.

Sony sends out invites for MWC Event to be held on February 25th; Xperia XZ4, XA3, XA3 Ultra and L3 expected

0

“The Japanese brand is all set to launch its first set of smartphone for the year at the upcoming event”

Japanese smartphone maker, Sony has been using the Mobile World Congress for a long time as a platform to introduce its latest phones. It seems that this year will not be any different. The company has sent out media invites for a February 25th event at MWC 2019 to Russian and Italian media. However, the invites don’t reveal any names of the devices to be expected at the event.

According to the speculations, the smartphone maker might launch the flagship – Xperia XZ4 at the event. There are also talks that Sony might launch the upcoming smartphone with a new moniker – Xperia N1. Further, there were rumours that the brand might launch the Xperia XZ4 Compact along with the flagship and we also saw the leaked renders of the same. However, a recent report claims that the company might give the compact variant a skip. Instead, Sony will be launching a series of new smartphones including Xperia XA3, Xperia XA3 Ultra and Xperia L3. According to Don Mesa, the Sony Mobile Vice President of Marketing for North America, Don Mesa, users need a bigger display now a days to consume multimedia content. This is probably the reason why Sony has scraped the Xperia XZ4 Compact.

Coming to the Xperia XZ4, the leaked renders and 360-degree video in the past revealed some key details. The smartphone is expected to be the first from the brand to feature a triple camera module on the back. However, the details of the camera setup are not known at the moment. The flagship is expected to feature a large 6.5-inch display featuring 18:9 aspect ratio and bezels still present on the top and bottom of the screen. On the performance front, the XZ4 is speculated to be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 SoC. As of now, no other details of the handset is known.

Expect more details of the upcoming Sony flagship to pour in over next few days. Stay tuned to 91mobiles for more updates.

Huawei officially announces its participation at MWC 2019, could launch the P30 series at event

0

“They are expected to launch the P30 series during the event”

Chinese OEM Huawei has officially announced its participation at the upcoming Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain. MWC is an annual tech summit which sees new and upcoming technologies being showcased by top companies. More recently it has started to evolve as a platform for launching new products and for announcing future launches. Huawei is also expected to showcase plenty of its technologies including 5G, IoT and others. But the most important one is the upcoming P30 series smartphones. And we’ve seen enough leaks to realize that it’s going to be an interesting piece of hardware.

As with the previous iterations in the P-series, Huawei is expected to follow a similar suit with P30 and launch it at the MWC 2019 which will be held from 25th to 28th of February. P10 was also unveiled at MWC 2017 and while P20 didn’t launch at the MWC this year, Huawei showcased it a few days later in Paris. So there’s little reason to believe that something similar won’t happen this year.

Huawei Mate 20 Pro review - 91mobiles 004

As for P30, a new concept video of the smartphone recently made it to the internet showcasing a quad-camera setup at the back along with a glossy finish to the body and an extremely tiny tear-drop notch at the front. Other leaked features of the P30 include the 5x/10x lossless zoom, Xenon flash, in-display fingerprint reader among others. Interestingly, the concept video shows the P30 without any chin at the bottom of the display, which is possible by doing the same thing Apple did with its latest iPhones. Huawei could make use of a similar technology.

Huawei P30 is expected to run on the latest Android 9.0 Pie OS out-of-the-box with EMUI 9.0 skin loaded on top. The device could be powered by the recently launched Kirin 980 SoC with 7nm technology coupled with 6GB / 8GB RAM and 512GB of storage

MediaTek to launch 5G chipset at MWC 2019

0

“The MediaTek 5G SoC will likely use the company’s M70 5G-capable modem”

MediaTek today launched the Helio P90 SoC for mid-range smartphones, with Fusion AI architecture to better handle AI-related tasks. At the sidelines of the launch event, MediaTek’s Business Head of Wireless Communication Product division TL Lee told 91mobiles that the company plans to launch a new chipset with a 5G modem at Mobile World Congress 2019. This new 5G-capable SoC will, of course, compete with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 855 chipset and will be the part of the company’s efforts to tap the upcoming 5G wave.

mediatek-chip-general

The MediaTek 5G SoC will likely integrate the company’s M70 modem that supports 5G networks. It could be part of the company’s Helio series considering the company scrapped its X series for flagship smartphones. However, there is always a chance the brand may launch a new product range altogether as 5G presents a new opportunity for the brand to tap the flagship smartphone segment.

5G networks will start rolling out in the US and South Korea in the first half of 2019, followed by some other countries in the second half. However, we will not be getting 5G in India for another couple of years at least. Several smartphone brands have announced plans to launch handsets with 5G capability.

imc_5g_tech1

In fact, most of the leading players in the industry have announced they will be using Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 855 SoC. These include the likes of Xiaomi, OPPO, Vivo, HMD Global, Sony, LG, and ZTE. Huawei has also said its foldable phone will be 5G-capable and it uses its in-house Kirin SoCs for its flagship phones.
