Coronavirus: Jio Fiber launches free 10Mbps broadband plan for new users

After rolling out 4G double data vouchers with IUC minutes, Jio has announced a free of cost basic Jio Fiber broadband plan for new connections. This is part of Jio’s new #CoronaHaregaIndiaJeetega initiative and to ensure network connectivity is up and about during the crisis. A new connection will be provided in geographically feasible locations and interested users can sign up through Jio Website or MyJio app. Additionally, the telecom network said that all the existing Jio Fiber customers are entitled to double data benefits based on their plan’s FUP limit.

The basic Jio Fiber free broadband plan comes with a speed of 10Mbps and will not have any FUP limit for now. However, users will still have to purchase the Wi-Fi router and pay a refundable deposit of Rs 1,500. Customers opting for the basic broadband plan will be moved to other Jio Fiber plans at a later date. Jio said that it is taking extra efforts to minimise the downtime as network connectivity is essential for work from home during the coronavirus lockdown in India.

Separately, Jio recently introduced the “Work From Home” recharge pack at Rs 251. This new Jio recharge pack provides users with 102GB data (2GB data per day) for a period of 51 days. However, it doesn’t include calling or SMS benefits, meaning it works as an additional add-on to the data available with the standard pack. It should be noted the Jio Work From Home plan a renamed Cricket Season Pack that is usually made available during IPL and other major events.
