Apple is reportedly planning a major overhaul of its iPhone lineup in 2027. It’s the same year when iPhone will celebrate its 20th anniversary. The company is not only planning to launch a ‘mostly glass’ iPhone model but also a foldable iPhone by 2027, a new report suggests.
Apple to launch a mostly-glass iPhone in 2027
- Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, in the latest Power On newsletter, wrote that the company is planning to launch a ‘mostly glass, curved iPhone’ with no display cutouts in 2027. He didn’t provide any more details about this iPhone.
- If this report is true, Apple’s 20th anniversary edition iPhone model could come with an under-display front camera and a bezel-less design. Perhaps its edges could be curved and flowing backwards like in this 2019 Apple design patent.
- Gurman had previously said that the company was planning to launch a high-end iPhone model that would make more extensive use of glass throughout the device’s design.
- It follows a report by Korean publication, The Elec, wherein the publication noted that Apple was in talks with its display partners for creating a ‘zero bezel display‘ for its upcoming iPhone but not the way that would curve on the sides, a trick Samsung and Vivo have used in the Samsung Galaxy Note Edge and the Vivo Nex 3 respectively.
- That said, Apple uses glass in front and back in its existing iPhone models, like the iPhone 16 Pro, with metal being used just in the chassis. So, it remains to be seen what changes the company will make in its 20th anniversary edition iPhone model.
Apple’s first foldable iPhone arriving in 2027
- In the same report, Gurman also wrote that the company would launch its first foldable iPhone in 2027.
- This news follows a separate report wherein GF Securities analyst Jeff Pu said that Apple’s foldable display iPhone will come with a 7.8-inch inner display and that it would go into mass production by the second half of 2026.
- Beyond this, Gurman didn’t share any specific details about Apple’s first foldable display iPhone.
