Delhi Corona app launched: what is it, how is different from Aarogya Setu, and how to download

The Delhi Corona app is different from the already available Aarogya Setu app.

  • Delhi Corona app disseminates information regarding the availability of hospital beds and ventilators for treating corona infected patient
  • The app is available for download on Android through the Google Play Store

In an effort to fight the COVID-19 pandemic, the Delhi government has launched the ‘Delhi Corona’ app. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal announced the launch of the app for the people living in the city via a press conference. The app is designed to make it easy for people to find healthcare facilities for COVID-19 treatment near them. The Delhi Corona app informs users about the availability of the hospital beds and ventilators in the government and private hospitals around them. The app is initially available for download only for Android users. This comes amid rising cases of coronavirus in Delhi.

What is Delhi Corona app?

The Delhi Corona app is a mobile application that tracks hospital beds for COVID-19 patients living in Delhi. “It (Delhi Corona app) will provide information about all the hospitals in Delhi, private as well as govt. It will tell you the number of vacant beds in every hospital,” Kejriwal said at the launch of the app. The app also supports both Hindi and English languages.

“If a hospital refuses to provide you bed even when our (Delhi Corona) app shows beds are available in that hospital, then you can call on 1031. Our Special Secretary will take an action immediately and contact the hospital authorities to provide your bed on the spot,” he added. The app will be updated twice a day, 10 am and 6 pm, with the latest information on the healthcare facilities.

How is Delhi Corona different from Aarogya Setu?

The Delhi Corona app should not be confused with Aarogya Setu app. The latter is a COVID-19 contact tracing app, developed by the National Informatics Centre under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology. The Aarogya Setu app informs users if they come in contact with any person infected by the virus using the phone’s GPS and Bluetooth.

The Delhi Corona app, on the other hand, bridges the gap between the citizens and the hospitals. “There have been instances where people are complaining of the shortage of beds and medical facilities, so clearly there is a gap in information as even today around 4,100 beds are still vacant,” Delhi CM said.

How to download Delhi Corona app?

As stated above, the Delhi Corona app is available for download only for Android users right now via the Google Play Store. Unfortunately, the app is not supported for iOS devices as of now. It doesn’t require any registration to access the information. Apart from the disseminating information regarding hospital beds, the Delhi Corona app includes self-assessment tool, guidelines, helplines numbers, and links to services such as ration, e-pass, and hunger/ shelter relief centres, among other things.
