Eyeing the big pie of the world’s fastest-growing mobile market, IT giant Dell has set its plans to enter the India’s mobile market. The US-based company has placed an advertisement in local newspapers, saying it is making “a move into mobile phones” and sought distributors with “retail reach.” “India is one of the key markets for Dell consumers and as we work on the plans to bring the smart phones to this market, we continue to explore various go-to-market options,” Dell India general manager (consumer) Mahesh Bhalla said in a statement. With this move, Dell follows steps of world’s popular smartphone major Apple, RIM and many others in launching its handsets in Indian market — which is already witnessing the entry of increasing number of domestic as well as international players. India had about 617.53 million mobile-phone users by May-end, and is only next to China. In addition, according to a study, mobile users are expected to exceed 771 million by 2013 in the country. Dell is mainly into manufacturing computers, laptops and related products and services, and it had entered into the burgeoning smartphone category globally late last year. However, the company did’nt reveal any specific time as by when will it bring it smartphones to the Indian market.
