If it seems like just yesterday that Motorola introduced a quartet of mid-range handsets in the Moto G range — the Moto G31, G41, G51, and G71 — you wouldn’t be all that far off: those models debuted in late November of last year. And yet the company has already begun launching the iterative successors to that lineup, with the first of those announcements having been for the Moto G22 (formerly known by the codename Hawaii+).
It’s pretty clear that the Lenovo subsidiary is eschewing a more traditional annual release schedule in favor of replacing or complementing phones in the market at a more rapid clip. Whether this relatively fast turnover will prove to be a competitive advantage remains to be seen: phone buyers can already get salty the moment last year’s multi-hundred or thousand-dollar purchase feels like its been usurped, even with a full twelve months in between releases.
Nevertheless, next up from the Moto-juggernaut will be the Moto G52 (codenamed Rhode), a large-screened mid-ranger with beefy battery but no 5G support in line with previous generations of the Moto G5x. Specifically, we’re looking at a Snapdragon 680 processor at the heart of a 6.55-inch handset with FHD+ pOLED display capable of 90Hz refresh, and either 4GB or 6GB RAM coupled with 128GB or 256GB of ROM.
The IP52-certified G52 will sport a 50-megapixel main camera, common to a wide swath of Motorola handsets this year, along with 8MP wide angle and 2MP depth sensing, plus 16MP front-facing — and punch-hole-mounted — cams. As mentioned above, at 5000mAh, its battery is one of the largest that Motorola stuffs into its devices. Expect an imminent international debut for this Android 12 newcomer.
